I just have two full days in Crete and Rhodes, but will probably rent a car ( at least in Crete).

Looking for any ideas, favorite places or lodging that others have enjoyed as I am looking to make the most out of our stay.

Thanks!

Hi again Lisa,
My son stayed here, just before going to Santorini.

http://www.maris.gr/silva/

He liked it as an all inclusive. They rented a car and enjoyed the small villages and the ancient site....Palace of Knossos.

I remember driving to some of the small villages and going to the wine and olive oil places but cannot recall their names.

Enjoy! J.

Above post was for Crete.

We did not stay in Rhodes but stopped there on a cruiseship twice. Our taxi driver took us to a jeweler...called Sarlis. Our credit card did not work (on our second trip there). The jeweler remembered us and when we couldn't get the problem straighten out over the phone he let us take the jewelry, solve the problem when we were back in Athens! How trustworthy is that?

And my son/wife were just there on their honeymoon and bought some jewelry from him.

Rhodes has the ancient walled city which is wonderful to walk around...cafes and shops and there are beaches there as well. We went to the big rock, pebble beach by the big hotels. J.

Thanks chiaro di luna !! Yes we are really looking forward to visiting the knossis palace as I have a little archeology fan.

Wow,that jeweler really sounded trusting. There was a big jewelry robbery here in Satorini a few days ago where 1.5 milion in gold jewelry was stolen. The police were all over, but the robbers seemed to be long gone.

We will probably stay within the old city in Rhodes.Looking forward to them and a few more Greek islands around our Turkey visit.

We had a great time in Crete and Rhodes and highly recommend them as I know few Americans get to these great places.

My blog entries on these are up now:

And when I have time I will do some hotel reviews for the next person looking for info on this area. ( Turkey too and other Greek Islands)

Hi WT, I have really enjoyed following your blog. How scary for you suspecting possible heart problems and having to be there all alone. At least you had a handsome doctor. AND...where is his picture?? I am really glad you are ok. Enjoy Turkey.

Ha ha! It was one of the very few times that I did not have my camera attached to my hand. I had left it with hubby when they forced them to abandon me.

I have low blood pressure and low cholesterol, so I hoped it was not a real problem, plus I had walked up several flights of stairs with a heavy bag with no problem and such. Still it was a symptom one does not want to mess with.

I was quite relieved to know my EKG was good and my heart strong. I was so happy I did not even think of taking his picture like I did when my daughter had to go to the doctor a few times.

It turned out to be a fun adventure, but certainly food for thought on how vulnerable we can be when traveling to some places.

One more reason that we are glad we are doing this traveling now and not ten or twenty years from now when it would be more risky.

That said, I have an aunt near 80 who has endured every serious medical condition I think and continues to travel like crazy. ( Just returned from Peru ).

Glad that you are enjoying the blog and thanks for the kind words!
