Is it true that Hotels and resturants charge 19% sales tax in Prague?

I didn't remember it being that high last year, but apparently it is. If purchases are large enough, you should be able to get back a VAT refund of about 15% if you follow the correct procedures.

Yes, the standard rate of VAT in the Czech Republic is 19 per cent, the same as in neighboring Germany and Slovakia. That standard rate applies to regular hotel rooms and to restaurant meals. In the Czech Republic, they are usually very good about itemising it separately on the bill, using the words Daň z přidané hodnoty or sometimes just the letters DPH. But note that most prices are quoted inclusive of VAT / DPH so it is not an extra that suddenly appears on your bill after the event.
