Hello all,

There's a good chance I'll be participating in the BioFach organic trade show in Nuremberg next February. I'd be happy to be informed of possible accommodation in the 50-80 Eu. range per private double room. The places I have checked so far that are relatively well located and budget-priced are already booked. If anyone knows of smaller enterprises that don't advertise a lot, I'd be grateful for the details.

Thanks very much,
Joe

hi Joe,

I looked at the website of that trade fair - it looks really great! On their website, there is a link to this company:

http://www.bed-and-breakfast.de/nuernberg/index.asp

It's in German and when I click English it takes me back to the main website. This page has the prices though, and they look reasonable. Maybe write to the contact and ask about what they can offer for your dates.

Hope it all works out for you.

Hi Shannon,

Thanks for the input - I've already been through the steps you suggested, and to my disappointment the price offer I received is higher than what thay advertise. For some reason the "booking inquiry" function on the site didn't work for me, so I sent them a direct e-mail.
They replied with an offer of 95 EU. per double room - more than what is listed on the site. So either they're raising the prices for the week of the Fair, or .... well, I don't want to say things I'll regret.
Hope someone here might know of something simple and clean at reasonable prices that still hasn't been booked - just need a place to sleep at the end of the day.

Thanks again,
Joe

That sucks, Joe! Yes, hopefully someone will have some tips for you. I checked on vrbo and homelidays and there are no apartments in Nuremberg listed, but homeaway.com does - have you checked that route yet? It looks like there are a couple of studios - maybe they have not yet been booked.

No, never heard of them - thanks for the tip.

I DID send a query to the place we both ran into from the Fair website, to ask about the discrepancy in prices - still waiting for an answer... Regards

Hi Shannon and all,

You asked to be kept informed - well it DOES turn out that places of accommodation in Nuremberg DO hike the prices during the week of the BioFach Fair (February). Even the ones I checked on the Homeaways.com site you suggested (indeed a good tip) sent me price offers significantly higher than advertised. 75 EU as opposed to 46 EU as advertised.
I guess that's life.
Doesn't look like I'm going to find anything for less than 500 EU. for a week.

Joe

Joe, at least if you get an apartment you can save some money by cooking in...

Two weeks ago I booked a double room at the new Nhhotel Nurnberg for 60 E per night. It was a promo on their website for advance planners. Other hotels were far more expensive as we there in the height of the Christmas market season.

Good luck!

Hi KimG,

Thanks for the tip - unfortunately they don't have vacancies for the week of the Fair.

This is pretty amazing - I would never have thought that the BioFach would attract so many participants that already at this date it would be so difficult to find a cheap room.

Regards,
Joe

Of course it would be a pain to have to commute 30-60 minutes, but I would look for places with good transit links that are some distance away, and book one as a backup.

Hi WillTravel,

Thanks for the suggestion. In my case, this is truly a bottom-of-the-list option, as intercity commuting is one of my great displeasures. I'd prefer an hour's walk - even though I've long forgotten what this feels like in freezing weather...

I've also noticed that in some of the places I try to book, they require a deposit - credit card info is not enough. This is also something that in my humble opinion does not add points to the attractiveness of an accommodation. But I've never been on their side of the desk.

Regards,
Joe

Have you checked out THESE apartments? I stayed there last December. It is a 3 minute walk to the metro/subway and then a few stops into town. The apartments are basic but clean and comfortable. I will be using them again next winter as well.

Hello Mary,

No, I haven't seen this advertised. I have sent them a request for info.Do you remember the price of the room you stayed in? I think an apt. is a bit too much for me, but I'll see what answer I get...

Thanks!

Hi Mary - just got an answer back from the place : no vacancy.

I DO have two places on my waiting list, but both are still more than what I'd like to pay, and both want a down payment. And it looks like my wife won't be joining me, so I'm less in a hurry to make a final reservation.
Thanks!
