Hi Deb, I spent July 2001 in Budapest - and left on August 1. But, I can tell you it was not extraordinarily hot - definitely not like it was in Italy just before and after I was in Budapest. As for crowds, I believe many of the locals head to Lake Balaton or other places in August, so the city might be quite empty.

I was in Budapest in summer a lot of times, and I found always different weathers: hot, but also cold weather ...once 2 years ago it was really cold (could be 10 degrees) ...the temperature here in Europe is changing: in the last 2 years we have had very good Marches Aprils, while in August and September the weather was not very good: colder than usual and quite often it rains. Ciao, Margherita

Anyway I don't want to let you change destination: Budapest is a very good choice for your holiday. if you need some advices on restaurants and places to visit, please ask. Margherita
