We will be traveling from Budapest to Vienna and are trying to determine route and fares but am having a hard time finding such info. I get as far as the sites but can't get any detailed info about the routes and costs. Also trying to find the bus or train station in Budapest. Any assistance will really be appreciated. Thanks Frank
Here is the site we used for planning the same journey -- in English! We bought our tickets in Budapest, after our arrival there. Have a wonderful time -- both cities are fantastic!

Hi Frank (and what a coincidence -- I get most of my medical care at TAMC). No, you're not reading it right. It's actually about 3 hours. For example, there's an 11:10am departure that arrives in "Wien" at 14:09, or a 13:10 arriving at 16:06. These are the 2 nonstops within that time frame. Both leave from the Keleti station -- we took a cab there. Hope this helps!

Ann-Boy is my face red. It has been a long long time since I was in the army using military time, 1964. Stupid me I was looking at the time as the number of hours the journey took. Gosh these senior moments are getting more frequent.
Ann, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your information. I sure appreciate it.
Ann, We are going in May for our 30th anniversary. Hope to do the Danube cruise that day. It should be great fun. Really looking forward to it and to the ride from Budapest to Vienna where we will pick up a car for the drive to Grundlesee in the Austrian Styria region. Will finalize the adventure with 3 days in Vienna then home to Sarasota to start planning for our 6th trip to Italy.
Is Tripler still pink? Hopefully it is not too built up around there. It was so beautiful looking out at the views from the site. Last time we visited Hawaii was in 1979. I am sure it has changed dramatically. Since we started writing yesterday so many fantastic memories have been running through my head about my time in Hawaii.
Where will you be arriving by plane? Have you made your plane reservations yet? In the '90's, we flew into Vienna, took a book along the Danube to Budapest (rather than a cruise) and then flew out of Vienna. [In between, we spent several days in Prague and then nearly a week in the Salzkammergut before driving to Vienna for several more days.}
Salzkammergut? Wow. That is where we will be spending a week in the Lake Region with our base in Grundlsee with day trips to some of the other lake towns--for sure Hallstat and St Wolfgang and then to Salzburg. In '99 we were in Schladming, Austria and visited some of the other towns in the region. Love it there but have spent the last 8 visits in Italy.
We will be flying into Budapest for 7 days. Rather than drive to Austria we thought we would take a bus or train to Vienna and pick up a car there then back to Vienna-drfop off car and spent the last 3 days touring Vienna. What type of boat did you take from Vienna to Budapest?
I'm glad you realized I meant to say "boat" - rather than "book." I just found my notes from that trip. It was a hydrofoil. Someone I know had suggested it. I think they still have them on that route, and they go in both directions. It takes a bit longer (5-6 hrs.), but perhaps you might consider this mode of travel as well.
Hi Frank. Yes, Tripler is still that lovely pink color - despite the horrendous growth, it still stands out. BTW, several folks at Fodor's recommended against the boat trip from Budapest to Vienna - said it was boring and you weren't able to see much along the way, and it's also significantly longer than the train trip. Sounds like you have a wonderful trip coming up. We really enjoyed Budapest and Vienna more than Prague, which was incredibly crowded even in October. The restaurants in both cities were terrific, also the museums. Enjoy!
Aloha, Ann
