Anzac Day is traditionally held on 25th April each year. Although widely commemorated here in Australia, a lot of groups do make the pilgrimage each year to Gallipoli.
Having never been myself, I really couldn't tell you how busy it would be or where the majority of crowds congregate.
Dawn services are held in a number of different locations, but predominately at Gallipoli itself.
Having seen news footage and commentaries from previous years, I would say that the atmosphere would be quite something to experience. I imagine the crowds would build up before the event and travellers would linger after as well.
So in all, I can't really answer your question but would suggest that you go ahead with your plans anyway.

My brother was in Turkey this year for ANZAC Day. He was on a Battlefields Tour & they spent about 5 days prior at Gallipoli, however he said most tour groups arrived the day before from Istanbul, Cappadoccia, etc & there are also large numbers of individuals arriving, mainly from Istanbul. He thought being there a week or two earlier would be better, if you had the choice.

We will probably go to Ephesus on the 18th because no cruise ships will be in. and then on the 22nd and 23rd we will be doing Capadoccio.
I've been pulling up the tours that people would book if they went that route for the ANZAC rememberance..and I think we may be one step ahead of groups.
It's been interesting learning about ANZAC day...feel like I'm having my 1st sampling of cultural awareness!
