We just booked our (frequent flyer miles) trip to Amsterdam/France next spring. We have a vacation rental picked out for two weeks in the Loire Valley and we'll spend 4 or 5 days at my favorite hotel in Paris, but I'm looking for a wonderful place to stay in Amsterdam for 5 or 6 nights. I'm exploring Pauline's hotel recommendations, but I'm still looking for other recommendations to explore as well. Anyone have a favorite Amsterdam hotel/vacation rental??

You just said that so I can't post a link to my AMSTERDAM HOTELS page.

How about this vacation rental?

Oops, that site isn't working. But the same person owns this apartment in Spain:

She wrote to me about both her apartments. The Amsterdam one looked good.

Hi Chris,
If you are looking for a hotel in Amsterdam, we really liked the Sheraton. It is right on a canal, picturesque, etc. It has been "sewn" together out of 32 canal houses so it has a very interesting interior arrangement when it comes to the floors and rooms--nothing is a "typical" hotel. We were there in 2002.
Interesting-we are doing Amsterdam, France this November/December. Bad time of year, I know, but we have a conference in Amsterdam amd can't see flying over for just 4 days--will visit friends in Nice. Right now are looking for an 8 day cottage rental or some such thing in some small village around Nice. Ideas? Have been in France but not the Cote d'Azur so it will be new to us.

The Sheraton is currently my first choice, although their rack rate is more than I can afford. We have a friend who works for Starwood, so I'm hoping she can get us a deal!

We stayed in a hotel outside St. Paul de Vence on our only trip to Nice, so I don't know any vacation rentals in the area. There are a few reviews on the slowtrav website here, and this agency looks good (Pauline has declared it a slowtrav favorite).

We have only stayed at the budget end of hotels in Amsterdam. We have lived in Leiden and The Hague so Amsterdam was usually a day trip. One hotel was Hotel Agora. It is a good location right next to the flower market but not particularly great hotel. I would probaby recommend to go up a notch. One that has caught my attention is Canal House Hotel. It looks real interesting. The location is on one of the central canals near Anne Frank house. I haven't stayed there although.

You might also want to check out this web site. Most of the offering are available by night also.

If you do take a rental, I can help on advise regarding groceries, etc.

Hello:

Here is a small vacation rental from my "secret file" that looks wonderful! I have not had the opportunity to stay there as of yet, but hope to in the near future. Check it out and happy travels!Amsterdam-En Suite
