I am planning a hiking trip in the Dodecanese Greeek Islandsand will need to ferry between Kos or Rhodes and Fethye or Marmaris or Bodrum in Turkey for my planned week in Fethye. This will be Sept 2008 and I know the ferry service lessens in September.
I also want to go to Istanbul from Fethye and I think a flight from Dalaman will be necessary.
What does anyone know know about ferry service in September? What is your experience with low-cost airlines in Turkey? (I just want to get there safely and the day I want to go; I don't need it to be fancy. Abus from fethye to Istanbul takes 10-12 hours)
Thanks for the help. I have traveled a lot in Europe, but not in either of these countries.
I actually have a similar question. I am looking to go to Istanbul for a few days from Greece. I will most likely be in Crete or Santorini and I am looking to see if anybody knows the best/cheapest ways to get to Istanbul and how long it will take by plane/ferry, etc... Thanks!

We have flown domestic airlines in Turkey and they are fine--no problem. One thing to prepare for is that sometimes the planes land on military airfields and it can be disconcerting to look out the window and see armed military positioned along the airfield if you aren't prepared for that.
