Help! We're driving to Florence this Saturday and need a hotel for one night somewhere between Lucerne and Lugano....most of what I've found on the internet is either very expensive, closed for the spring, or fully booked.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Ashley, well, i did a quick search for Bellinzona and came up with this list that you can try. Going south, Bellinzona is the major town before Lugano, about 80 km after the Gottard Tunnel.

In Beckenreid, which is about 20 minutes outside of Luzern, you can take a look at this darling place -- The Gasthaus Schluessel.

I don'T know what your start off point is, but the difference between Beckenried and Bellinzona is about two hours of driving, so you can judge where you would rather stop.
