I am having a difficult time finding an upscale apartment in central Interlaken for clients to rent for a week in October. They do not want 'rustic' or 'simple,' they want 'first class.' I have contacted the tourist office as well as five rental companies, and the closest we've come has been a house (which they would also do), but it is outside of town and the clients don't want that. Anyone having suggestions of who or what to contact, please let me know. I will be most grateful!

We have rented apartments many times in Switzerland and always do it through the tourist office. It seems that they have every single listing for the area. I just went to www.interlaken.ch but the website wasn't working. But, if you have talked to the tourist office, then you have covered this.

I have not found many agencies for Switzerland (besides Interhome which usually has boring looking apartment buildings) and Drawbridge to Europe who I used once who has some listings. I have them on my Switzerland page:

Another thing I have noticed is that there are sometimes a few Switzerland listings on those web sites with listings by owner. I have them listed on this page:

Currently I am looking for apartments in Engelberg and Meiringen. The tourist departments rate them by star level and there are lots of 4 star listings. The tourist office for Meiringen also covers Brienz on the other end of the lake from Interlaken. Perhaps this is a possibility?

There were also several 4 star listings for Meiringen - which looks like it would be a good base.

I just received a good review of apartments in Grindelwald. They are 4 star and are on the main street, but at the end just past the busy area. I will be posting the review soon.

We also have rented in Grindelwald - a 4 star apartment. Very luxurious - but a little out of town. Fabulous views.

Did you post on the AOL Switzerland forum? I posted there last week for information about Engelberg and got some good replies. I did not get any replies on Fodors, but got a private email from an American living in Stans, near Engelberg.
