Hello to all,

I was wondering if anyone out there would like to get-together for a brunch, lunch or dinner this coming June - in the Pacific Grove/Pebble Beach/Carmel area?

Nancy(hol) and her husband will be here for the US Open and maybe a few of you would like to make it a party.

An idea could be:
Sitting, sipping a drink at sunset while listening to the Bagpiper come over the 'moors' at Spanish Bay, and then dinner at one of their restaurants or ... somewhere else.

I have some ideas - as I have had a long time to think about this GTG, but I would love to hear others' ideas.

I am not sure of the exact date - it will depend on Nancy and her husband's schedule, but I thought I would toss the line out there and see if I can catch anyones attention.

Wendy, what a good idea!

We are arriving in Carmel on Sunday, June 13th and will be there for four nights. Then up to Santa Cruz to visit family. We usually go to the practice rounds and leave before the big crowd comes for the final weekend. Tickets for the weekend rounds are pretty expensive.

We haven't made any dinner-related plans yet, so any of the four nights would be fine.

Wendy,
I sure would love to be part of this, especially if it includes seeing the piper at sunset! Note

I won't know my schedule until closer to the date, but I'll watch this thread and hope to attend.

Thanks for kicking this off!

( ComplainI hate computers, with the exception of the people we've met because of them. I just wrote this long -not Wendy- post with all sorts of links only to lose it all. Mad Now to start again. Note to self 'copy before posting').

Okay, it seems to me that a Sunday GTG would make the most sense for the most people, providing Nancy and her husband can reach the peninsula in time.

With that in mind does Sunday, June 13th work for everyone out there?

My ideas at this point for this GTG are:
Drinks and Bagpipes starting around 5 at Spanish Bay, Pebble Beach, then we can either stay on property for dinner at either:
Roy's, of Roy's of Hawaii fame = http://www.pebblebeach.com/pag...ame=Restaurants_Roys
Peppoli, one of 5 Antinori restaurans in the world = http://www.pebblebeach.com/pag...=Restaurants_Peppoli
Stick's, their casual restaurant with more favorable prices = http://www.pebblebeach.com/pag...e=Restaurants_Sticks

Or, we could go off property:
Fandango's in Pacific Grove = http://www.fandangorestaurant.com/

Rio Grill - California cuisine, in the Crossroads shopping center, Rio Rd & Hwy 1 = http://www.riogrill.com/
Lugano Swiss Bistro, a fondu party would be fun = http://swissbistro.com/contact/
Robata for some Japanese = http://www.restauranteur.com/robatacarmelcom/
Both Lugano and Robata are in the Barnyard off of Hwy1 and Carmel Valley Rd (basically) The above three restaurants are a 15-18 minute drive away from the bagpiper.

Now, another idea could be lunch/brunch -providing everyone can make the designated hour - and those who want to hang around go listen to the bagpiper afterward.

Just some ideas, anyone have any? And, does the date work?

Also, the 13th is not Father's Day for those of you who celebrate.

The US Open always ends on Father's Day, which is the 20th this year.

I am not sure if we can get up there by brunch time (probably 8 hrs of travel), but 5:00 should be fine. You all could still do brunch if that is the only option, and we could meet you for drinks and bagpipes later. Actually, by June, sunset will be much later, won't it? Like 7 - 8 p.m.? But, maybe we have to stake out our places at 5:00?

We have been to the Roy's in the desert, and it IS wonderful! Fondue sounds good too, but maybe it's better to stay on the property?

Wendy, this sounds wonderful. You have thrown out a lot of great ideas! I loved that photo you posted of the bag piper in another thread.

I'll keep looking at this as it develops. I would definitely need to take Monday off from work. I would love a short getaway in your area!

Nancy, yes I am sure that sunset is around the mid-7 o'clock hour at that point in June - actually is June 20th Summer Solstice as well as Father's Day, so maybe it is even later? With that in mind we could set ourselves up sometime during the 6/7 o'clock hour.

Our Roy's is wonderful, my favorite dish is the butterfish, yummm.

The caveat to staying on property, I get a discount in the restaurants - not the bars - so ... but I will have to confirm that I get the discount w/ a group. I'll check that out Monday.

I guess I should also consider posting some places to stay overnight for those of you who want to make it more than just a day-trip. I will work on that tomorrow.

I am glad you are considering joining Susie.

I am definitely interested, but am not sure what my June will look like yet. We don't usually vacation in the summer, so unless something dramatic in the family happens (are those nieces or nephews ever getting married??) we can probably be there. I have no input for what to do, where to go as I haven't been in your area for many years. Wendy, I will let you be our guide!

For Eden and others (like me) who cannot do this in June, we are hoping to be spending a week in the Santa Cruz area just after the 4th of July. If that pans out, perhaps we can have a redux of Wendy's great plan; we would very much like to drive over to Monterey and have a sunset evening with the piper. And dinner out with friends.

Should I be making a July GTG thread?

I figure once I have done the work for one we can do this 'almost' any time.

Should we make the date?
Should it be Sunday the 13th of June?
Can a moderator change the title or should I start a new thread?
Should it be drinks with the bagpiper and dinner afterward?
Dinner at one of the hotel restaurants?
Or off property?
?????
Joanna's Dancing Man I am so glad this going to happen. Wine

Dinner on the property sounds the most logical, especially after our sunset-watching wine.

The choices all sound good, so maybe everyone can check out Wendy's links earlier in this thread and pick their favorite.

Thank you Judy for the name change, we are both really sorry you won't be able to make it, will you be back before July 4th?

Regarding restaurants, all three are good, it just depends on what people want to spend and what kind of food they would like to have. (I still need to find out about my discount capability, will do that Monday).

If people want to chime in if they think they will be attending please do and I will start a list. I realize we are months away, but it is exciting to be putting this GTG together and why not start with attendees.

Nancy and Bill will be there.

Both the Antinori restaurant and Roy's are probably more expensive than the casual Sticks. I just looked at their menu, and they have lots to choose from - I could eat just the appetizers and be satisfied.

We would be happy with any of the three.

As a new premium member here, I think my husband, John and I could make this trip. He has played a great deal of amateur golf in California and this is one of his favorite places. We are originally from Southern California and always look for an excuse to "Go Home," although all Californians know that discussion....LOL.

We're going to try and make the San Diego GTG, but kind of got a late start on the planning, so it might not work out.

Anyway, I'll keep watching this thread for updates.

Wendy,

Just to let you know that I am this close to a place for the July 4th week; when I actually make a deposit, I will let you know and then I think we could start a new thread for a GTG. We would be in Santa Cruz from 7/3-7/10, so maybe one night mid-week?

Hi everyone,

We are going to have a second GTG here on the Monterey Peninsula. This time being in July, sometime between July 5th and 10th I would imagine, since that is when Marcia and David will be in the area - Santa Cruz.

I hope those who have committed to the June 13th event will continue to attend, but you might consider coming back up/down for the July event as well. We will go to a different restaurant so it would be a different experience and of course some different people.

Here is the link for the July GTG thread:

Anyone up for it?

David and I are definitely interested in at least one of these GTGs. His bday is 6/11 so this could be a great way to celebrate. I'll talk to him about it and get back to you. So, put us in as a tentative.

Thanks for organizing this, Wendy!

Absolutely Ruth.

I apologize, I have not found out if I get to use my discount and I have not done places to stay in the area.

Regarding places, I think I put something together for someone else planning on passing through here. It would have been in a NA or GTG thread. Maybe I will at least find it and post it here and in the July thread.

I am actually hoping that some of you will come to both. We could make the July GTG a Saturday event for those who don't want to have to spend the night, or miss a day at work. It is still open for consideration.

Anyway, that is for the July GTG thread not this one. This one is Sunday the 13th.

I think you have plenty of time to get it together, so don't sweat it. Except that it would be fun for us to at least have the option of staying in the same or nearby locations, it is not really necessary. I do appreciate your efforts, and looking forward to more details.
