I think the best thing anybody ever did was make February only 28 days (mostly). February is one of those months when I think that it’s never, ever going to be spring, that I can’t stand one more grey day, that if something exciting doesn’t happen soon then I will just sit down and eat dirt.
Well, if anybody else feels like this, there is now a cure. For those of us in the Southeast (or actually, anyone from anywhere), a GTG is being planned in Atlanta for February 27, 2010. A GTG cures just about everything, in my opinion.
Leslie Erickson has come up with a wonderful place to GTG – La Pietra Cucina, which she says is the best Italian food she has had outside of Italy. Glowing report as far as I’m concerned!
So . . . Let's put on a show! Oh, wait a minute. Wrong movie. Wrong century. So . . . Let's have a GTG!
Kendall, I hope you can make it. I have always wanted to meet someone with a comparatively warped sense of life's adventures. I think you are the perfect candidate. I certainly hope you can make it.
Kaydee, it is a dinner GTG. I have a student in Murfreesboro that day so we would be leaving about 1:30 p.m. CST. We'll go straight to the restaurant. I sure hope you guys can make it. It's been ages since we've seen you.
We are, of course, staying overnight, so maybe we can come up with something for Sunday afternoon as well. Planning Committee: take note.
Planning committee? What planning committee??? Leslie
Can't there be just a "committee of one"? I suppose I could have just fallen back on my old "note to self", huh?
Kendall, I haven't got that far in the planning yet. As soon as I'm back from Michigan I'll get on to that. I'd like to stay somewhere near the restaurant.

I would be happy to post some hotel suggestions for you both after the holidays. The restaurant location is right in mid-town.
Leslie, thanks for the info. I've looked at them and now it's trying to decide which one. I love old places, so the Artmore sounds really interesting. DH only likes new places, so if I'm in charge, I can stay any where I please and he, of course, would have to go along with me.
I'll have a chance in the next couple of days to peruse the sites in more depth.
Kendall- Will you be joining us? It would be great to see you.
Last but not least,it would also be wonderful to see/meet any other Slow Travelers in the South East area that would like to join us!! The more, the merrier.
I believe I will be joining all of you. I haven't made any reservations yet as I'm trying to find the hotel I wanted to ask you about.
I also need to get Tim in the shop for a few little things since I will be road tripping it with him. Tim by the way is my car, but I think you figured that out already.
I am looking forward to seeing you again, and am dying to meet Earline. This will prove to be an entertaining GTG.

Kendall, I'm so glad you & Tim are joining us. Yes, it should be very entertaining!
Cal & I had decided on the Artmore, but do you know something about another hotel that the rest of us don't know? Should I hold out and see what your warped creative mind has come up with?
Bad news, I am afraid that due to large veterinarian bills I will probably not make the GTG. I am truely disappointed not to meet earline or renew my aqquaintance with Leslie & family.

Darn it! Kendall, that is bad news. But I understand the vet bills thing. They add up before you realize that you could have bought a new car for what you just spent on your precious kitties (or doggies, or gerbils, or parrots, etc.)
I am willing to stuff you in my siutcase and take you to Italy with me. I have visions of us gleefully mastercarding our way out numerous Italian jails.

Kendall, I believe we would be very compatible travel partners. I've only nearly been arrested in one foreign country, so that speaks for being able to mastercard one's way out of difficult situations!

uh . . . make that two! I forgot about one that was quite a few years ago.
Good eye, Kendall! That pesky post office! I don't know why they don't take those pictures down after a decent amount of time has past. Next thing you know, they'll be publishing the pictures to show how I have aged and how I might look these days!
I'm sure Kendall was at the big Savannah GTG, I met her on the architectural walk Kendall, did you meet us at the Green Palm Inn for the trolly ride to the historical museum? I thought we were all together.
Whatever, you gals will hit it off big! I want photo documentation of any trouble. I have the absinthe shot from Savannah '09 Kendall
Pokey the reason money is so tight for Atlanta is Italy. Death is the only reason I won't be there. So don't worry. Venice is paid for, and I have cash in hand for Florence, so all I have to pay for is airfare and spending. I'm just about covered on trip expenses. However House and car insurance fall due just before we go to Italy.
Earline I was in Savannah both in 08 and 09. The 08 GTG was big so it's hard to remember if we met, besides with everything going on there was not enough time for our abnormalities radiant light to shine.

I met you at the Green Palm Inn and we shared a cab to the Gingerbread House, I think. As to the Absinthe photo.... blackmailing me already? And no absinthe doesn't make the heart grow fonder.

I think we have an absinthe shot as well, Kendall Hmmmm....
Mindy, you should come on down. February is downright warm here compared to MA.
Looking forward to seeing everyone and hopefully, we will get a few others from the SouthEast/Atlanta area who would like to hang out with us eccentric people .
Kendall, have you booked into the Artmore yet? It's getting closer and closer! You need to bring the absinthe pictures from Savannah. Funnily enough, we also stayed at the Green Palm Inn in 2008. Maybe you slipped in there while we are touring the lighthouse area.
It's not too late for anybody else to jump in and say that they just can't wait to meet us insanely normal (???) people in Atlanta.
I have been watching this, and laughing at all your comments.
It is a shame for everyone to be so close and for me not to just get in the bug and head over. I have it penciled into my calendar... but unfortunately Harry Connick is also on my calendar (in Ink!).
If there is an outside chance that we can make it over on Saturday, I will chime in.
Jen, that stuff is nasty! It tastes like black liquorice, which I hate.
Earline, I was so intoxicated that Mindy had to give me a piggyback ride home. Hope you realize that you are elected for Atlanta if the situation occurs!

This is the "last call" for anyone who is considering joining us for the ATL GTG. The restaurant we have chosen is very popular due to their outstanding cuisine and I will need to make the reservations by tomorrow at the latest.
I am confirming:
Leslie Brent Riley (possibly) Cal Earline Kendall Mystery Guest who resides in Italy
If there are any other additions please let me know as soon as possible.
Linda, I sure hope you and Wes can make it. Haven't seen you in a coon's age!
It's funny that I was just thinking about you guys recently when we were having our Nashville GTG at your place and you were making Wes chop all those onions. He respectfully requested that I write a poem for him. Bless his little heart.
