Sheri (scg), Jeanne, and I have already been discussing in this thread the possibility of planning a Philly GTG sometime this summer. So let's make it official.

Anyone interested, please join us. We're thinking of a Sunday afternoon or evening in July or August.

Thanks for starting this thread, Terry. I think that Karen, from So. Jersey, (karenb1) will want to join us. Many, though certainly not all, restaurants are closed on Sunday/Monday in the summer. We'll have to check around. I'm pretty flexible with availability in July.

Too bad, Leslie. If you change your mind, we'll be here.

I'm going to check if Mark Vetri's Osteria is open on Sundays - I've been dying to go there.

Sounds good to me. I have also wanted to try there. I will have the pool schedule next Saturday. One Sunday in July is Family Day, and I won't be able to go that day. Otherwise, I am available.

Okay - not to be a pain, but I have Yankee tickets on July 19, and I'm in Paris (hehehe) on July 26 and St. Louis the last Sunday in August - can't remember the date, other than that, I think I'm around. Smile

Would a day during the week work better for people? Summer weekends tend to be difficult for coordinating people's schedules? Just a thought.

Hi All...

Sheri, thanks for the "heads up" about this thread!

I would love to meet up with everyone!!! ...and Terry, Osteria looks wonderful!

At this point, it would be easier for me to commit if we were talking mid to late June... as our family plans for July and August are still "up in the air" ... and won't be finalized for awhile.

I will continue to follow this thread closely and really hope I can make the date you decide on.

Karen

It turns out Sunday July 12 is not good for me - I'm taking my father to a Phillies game for his birthday. On July 26th, I'll be in Zion/Grand Canyon area for the week.

I know that mid-June is pretty booked for Sheri with graduation and all; maybe the last Sunday in June might work for everyone?

Or maybe we could look at some Sundays in August?

Also, I know it's a holiday weekend, but there's also Sunday, July 5.

I know we'll find something that will work.

Edited to add: BTW, it doesn't have to be a Sunday for me, either!

I think that a week night would work better for me. Jordan doesn't graduate until 6/18. While his party is on the 13th, I know I will have a slew of Graduation Parties on the weekends.

August is probably not good for me as I will be getting ready to get both kids back to school. No vacation plans at the moment, but I haven't given up hope on doing something. That would need to be early August due to work issues.

After June 21, I am available pretty much any week night!

I think Jeanne had originally suggested a Sunday GTG. Let's see what she says when she weighs in...

Hi,
At this time I'm available any Monday (except July 13th), Tuesday or Wednesday night. We return from Ottawa June 11th so Sundays or the above week nights would be OK for me.

Hope we can find a good time for as many as possible, would love to see y'all.

OK, Tuesdays not great for Karen, and Mon & Wed work for Jeanne.

Mondays are usually iffy for dinner at many restaurants (although Osteria IS open!), so I'm going to float a couple dates out here - Mon, June 22 or Wed, June 24 and Mon, June 29 or Wed, July 1.

Anything look good? What say ye?

Any of those dates are good for me. Why not shoot for the 22nd or 24th, unless someone else chimes in (Kim) and the others dates are better.

June 22nd or 24th are both fine for me. The 22nd would be best for Ziggy because that is his day off. However if the meal is at 7:00 or later on the 24th he should be able to go. I hope Sheri's Joe will be there.

Jean, I'm not really sure about Joe. He doesn't finish school until 6/25 (added snow days). As a Board member, he will also have "pool duty" one or two nights that week. Won't figure that out for another week or two. I'll have a better sense after the pool opens this weekend.

The 22nd and 24th are no go for me (I'm in Maui Big Grin) but the following week's dates work - either the 29th or the 1st.

That would be great, Sophia. It will be nice to meet you. I remember that you couldn't make the last Philly Gth.

Hope that someone will choose a date and place. I am up to my eyeballs in Proms, Volleyball Playoffs and Graduation! Will have more time after 6/18!

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Sophia, I'd love to see you again. Since it looks like either date works for everyone, why don't we aim for the first one, June 29th, Monday, at Osteria .

Let's try to agree on a time, and I'll call and make the reservation. The restaurant opens at 5pm.

Monday the 29th is good but can we make it 6:30 or 7:00? I don't drive in unfamiliar places at night so would want to come with Zig after he finishes work. ( I could do public transportation if we had a lunch GTG but I get a little paranoid at night, especially on north Broad)

Okay - I think I'm going to drop the girls at the shore that morning, and then maybe head into Philly sometime mid-afternoon - in case anyone is interested in hanging out earlier in the day. Then, home that night, have lunch with an old high school friend the next day and then back to the beach.

Ah, summer, when gas prices go high and I actually drive my car ... a lot. Roll Eyes

I am happy to p/u &/or dropoff anyone at the Train Station if they prefer not to drive. I usually finish up at work about 4ish. Any time is ok with me.

If 6:30 works for everyone, I'll make the reservation. Sophia, sure hope you can make it.

Kim, I'm working that day, or I'd love to join you in town. That being said, I can probably meet up sometime around 5. Maybe a nice wine bar ... ?

Count me in on the "Wine Bar GTG" before dinner... just let me know where and when...

Also... Kim, it is my day off... so am available earlier to do "whatever" in Philly... do you have anything specific in mind?

Let me know...

Nope nothing, though I just realized I should probably wait and see what the weather is like and how jet-lagged I am.

I work less about a mile from the restaurant, in the Fairmount area. It is a nice residential area for a stroll and there are many outdoor cafes. There is usually street parking available during the day. There is a two hour parking limit so we would have to drive over to the restaurant.I will check out parking around the restaurant.

There is not much to do or see in the immediate area of Osteria. Though it is only a few blocks northeast of downtown, there really isn't much to do or see in that area of downtown. It is also pretty congested down that way due to convention center construction. Would you agree,Terry? Maybe I am forgetting something.

Yeah, not much north of Broad & Spring Garden. I think Fairmount would be an excellent area to meander and meet for drinks.

Sheri, any ideas where we can imbibe? Have you been to the Rose Tattoo lately?

I was there for dinner a few months back and it was excellent, as usual. We could certainly have a drink there, though there are no outside tables if it is a nice day. I'll be in Fairmount 2 nights this week for Home & School stuff - I'll scout out a few places.

Terry, were you thinking about Rose Tatoo for Dinner? I've been wanting to try Osteria, but am up for anything if you want to hangout in one area.

Actually, I wasn't, but eating there may not be a bad idea.

I'll post both links to the restaurants:
Osteria and Rose Tattoo

Both restaurants are excellent. Osteria is the off-shoot of Philly chef-extraordinaire Marc Vetri, owner of Vetri's. It's a more casual type of a place, and gets rave reviews. A little out of the way in terms of center city neighborhoods. In fact, it's not in center city, just north of it.

Rose Tattoo has been around for many years, and has always enjoyed a stellar reputation and serves really fine food. It's more in a neighborhood, Fairmount to be exact.

Both are great choices; sorry if this compounds things. I'd be just as happy with either.
