EDITED 9/23 at Wendy's request to report the GTG will take place at the Taverna Dei Fori Imperali.

Ciao tutti,

Rob and I will be in Rome, and are wondering who else might be there and ready for a Roman GTG?

Both Sundays while we are there are filled, but we are available Monday Oct. 26 through Sat. Oct. 31 or Mon. Nov. 2nd.

Will anyone else be in the city, and want to catch a lunch?

Wendy and Rob

Wendy, I have tentative plans to be there 21st through 28th; once I've made the reservations, we'll talk. (And of course I am looking forward to seeing you and the Redwoods. Smile )

We are in Rome from the 14th to 29th.
Monday the 26th would work for us, although I haven't quite got my calendar organized yet.

My daughter and s-i-l decided to join us for a week and we aren't sure yet what time frame that will fall into as they haven't found an apartment yet.

I will keep in touch here and hope to meet you all.

My daughter and son-in-law are finally booked, flying into Rome (with us, from LA-London, and JFK-London connections) on the 15th and returning to NYC on the 21st.
They have an apartment close to us and we are so thrilled to have a chance to show them our favorite city.

So October 26th works for us.
Looking forward to a good lunch (dinner?) and meeting you all.

Thanks, Wendy.
They arrive with us on the 15th and leave on the 22nd, so it's just the two of us until the 29th.

Debra, I think the date is Monday the 26th, as Mariain is leaving on the 28th - if she makes it. But, the date isn't set in stone/marble, yet.

I am putting the 26th on my calendar, and Marian is just across the piazza from us!
(we are on Via dei Farnesi)

Back from our wonderful stay in Sausalito, where the weather was absolutely perfect.
Clear and sunny skies~~~a delightful surprise for August.
Your gtg up in that neck of the woods must have been great.

While I am not a fan of Dar Pallaro, I do see the sense in a fixed menu and price for a group. Certainly makes it easier when ordering and paying!
I have seen the photos of your GTG last year there, and the setting looked wonderful.
However, I think they may be closed on Monday.

Another choice might be Alfredo e Ada, via dei Banchi Nuovi 14, with a fixed menu too. Again though, not sure if it's open for lunch.
Confused

Wherever you decide to meet will work for us as it's probably the company more than the food that's important in this case.

Debra, I think you are right ---- Dar Pallaro is apparently not open Mondays. And it looks like Alfredo e Ada is only open evenings --- at least from a quick Google.

I don't much care where we eat, as long as I can have some sort of vegetarian option,, i.e., not ALL the pastas made with meat or shellfish. As you say, the company is more important than the food.

What does everyone think about La Taverna dei Fori Imperiali? I've never been there, but it's well reviewed here, and open Monday. Or is it not centrally located?

Doesn't look as if there will be a crowd; I think 5, or maybe 6 if Tony is around.

I have that on my list to try this trip! The reviews on ST make it sound delicious.
On my calendar (that includes church opening times and restaurant hours) I have them listed as closed Tuesday.

For us, (including you,Marian,) it would be an easy walk down via Gubbonari to via Arenula, past the Largo cat sanctuary, around the VE Monument to Via dei Fori Imperiali. The restaurant is near via Cavour. Maybe 15 minutes.

We had a small GTG at Taverna Fori Imperiale a few years ago. My only time eating there. The food is good. It is a small rustic place.

Is this a lunch or a dinner. If it is a dinner, L'Orso 80 is always a fun place to go with a large group.

Let me know lunch or dinner and I can give some more suggestions if you want them.

Ciao, I am just wanting to re-confirm this GTG:

Monday, Oct. 26th, lunch at Taverna Dei Fori Imperali. What time? How many? Reservations needed?

We are looking forward to our time in Italy - 20 days from now - and meeting up with old friends and new.

Yes, lunch on the 26th!

I guess the two of you, and Debra & husband, maybe Tony, and then there's me. So, still 5 or 6, unless Tony comes with a guest or two.

For time, 1 pm sounds good to me, but I'm flexible here.

(Wendy: Do you want to get the title changed to "Rome GTG Oct 26 lunch" or somesuch?)

We both look forward to seeing you and Tony and meeting Debra and whoever else will be able to join us.

Enjoy your preparations tutti.

I've been thinking of going to Rome solo in October or November but plane tickets are do high. Actually, I think I am probably just dreaming but what a good dream it is. Wink Grin If somehow a good price comes along I may just do it. If so, Wendy, I'd love to meet you in Rome. Big Grin

The more the merrier! Jane, let us know.

On another note: I have heard rumors that La Taverna dei Fori Imperiali may be closed for reservations renovations . As the restaurant does not have a website, I was unable to check this our authoritatively. Any spies out there?

Well, don't know what I was thinking--obviously not clearly. Our court date for the adoption is October 27 and no matter what happens, I probably need to be here for a few days-either to celebrate or to start the next step. Oh well, the dream was nice while it lasted. Frown

I am going to try to get there solo this year sometime. I just hope it is when others are there, too. Of course, Ellen is always there so that should work. Wink

So ---- Not so easy to find restaurants open Monday. But what about Armando al Pantheon? The menu looks great, and they even set out vegetarian. But no prices on menu. Thoughts?

We need to thank my neighbor Peter (Pecepe) who alerted me to the Chowhound mention of the renovations. Armando al Pantheon was one of his recommendations, and it's been on my list as well. (But you're welcome anyway Debra; will be nice to meet you one day soon!)

Okay, plan change number 29300229, If Peter recommended it it will great. It also has been recommeded to us on several occasions and we have been wanting to go there. (We know one of the vinters whose wine Armando al Panteheon carries - Terra Roubre, I think is the name. I'll check before our lunch).

So, who makes the reservations and how many are we actually

Any one of us could do so, just as long as someone does.
"It's your party..." Note you chose.

Anyway, count us in, that's 2.
Tony?
I haven't looked at the calendar to see if anyone else is in Rome at that time.

Funny, we all have wanted to try this place but somehow none of us have gotten around to doing so.

Jane, I am sorry to read that this particular date can't work for you, but we both hope you will be celebrating the finish to this long journey the three of you have been taking on the evening of the 27th. Our very best and though I doubt it is neccessary, we send good luck wishes. You and Ken are both Angel.

I think that MargM is going to be the first one to arrive in Rome. She hasn't checked in here in a while, but maybe she could make the reservation (assuming the restaurant is ok with her).

I am arriving on the 15th.

I will gladly make the reservations for Armando's, for 1:00 p.m. on the 26th, Monday.
Only one question. Will it 5 of us or will Tony be joining us?

We still have 2 weeks to go, and I have a computer in my Rome apartment for e-mail if 5 becomes 6 or 7.

I knew Marg wouldn't be still in Rome for the Mon. GTG, but Marian I understood you asking her to make the rezzies, on our behalf.

Having said that, thank you Debra for taking it upon yourself to do that task. We are looking forward to meeting you and seeing Marian and Tony.

Everyone, fly safe and enjoy your time before we all meet up. We will be in Tolfa and La Foce before Rome.
