I am craving some travel chat and wondered if any folks in the Toronto area were interested in a second annual lunch (or dinner) in March?

if not March, how about May Dorky Traveler? I will start a thread closer to the date, but David and I will be in Toronto for a long weekend, the third weekend in May, for a medical school reunion and would love to meet some of you for lunch. I don't have all of our "free" time at hand, but we most likely would be free for lunch on Friday 5/16.

March and May! One shouldn't stop the other if enough of us are interested. But there are two dates in May I already know I can't make it: May 10 and 11.

The second annual March GTG sounds like a great plan Marg.

Marcia, I can handle two GTGs! I'll look forward to meeting you in May.

Jerry and Doru, I'll pm some of our other regulars in case they don't spot this, and then we can start working on time and place.

I am game for a GTG in March, before the Savannah GTG! Thanks for alerting me MargM. I am in the throes of planning my September trip to Spain and France and it would be great to get input from Doru and Co. Dinner is always easier than lunch for me.

Lunch or dinner works for me. If we do dinner Paul might be able to join us as well.

Dinner sounds great. Doru, would Josette be able to join us if we make it dinner rather than lunch?

Now for dates and places.

I have Italian class on Wednesday, but any other weekday evenings are usually good for me.

Josette has a more complicated teaching schedule this year so sometimes lunch would fit, others dinner. With older, performing students, the scheduling became for her an exercise in flexibility.

In any case, we need a couple of date choices and then we will see.

As of today, I can't do lunch on March 11 and March 18 but can do dinners, all other dates (excluding weekends) being available.

As of now I'm available on the following dates for lunch: 3rd, 4th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 17th, and 18th.

For dinner we CAN'T do the 8th, 10th, 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th, and 29th.

If we do dinner it would be best for us if it was a later dinner so Paul could make it in from Burlington.

I am not going to Savannah. Initially it was a matter of money (over $3,000 for the two of us) and season (early April; concerns with airports or worse, driving). But now it doesn't matter because we have a problem with our dog, Frasier, and even if I would have registered I would have had to cancel. For the same reason we have no plans for 2008. Otherwise, at this time of the year I would have had booked a May trip and started reservations for the September one.

Hi all,

Just back from a weekend in Toronto - very posh black tie dinner at the University Club - our first, & very likely last, time there.

We have no definite plans to return in March this year, but pick a date whenever & we'll see if we can make it. May is likely out because our daughter is expecting our first grandchild early in the month - don't think I could pry Liz too far away from home. A weekend dinner would likely be best, but don't plan around us.

Doug, congratulations on the coming arrival!
Doru, sorry to hear about Frasier.

Lets try and make it dinner as it would be nice if Paul could join us, and I think it works out better for Marion and I. Here are a few Thursdays and Fridays that appear to be open so far:

Thursday March 6, 13 or 20
Friday March 7, 14 or 21

Jerry, what time would be managable for Paul? Of course we could choke down some prosecco while we wait Smile

OK. I am fine for all those dates. Josette teaches late on Thursdays, so Thursdays are out for her, but not for me. The Fridays are more doable for her.

So we say that you guys call it and we hope to be there.

I think that the 21st is Good friday so that may not be a great selection.

The rest are fine with us. The 14th would probably be best for us but as I said, we could make any of them work. If we selected the 14th I'd stay home that day and just drive Paul and I into the city so any time after 6:30 would be fine.

Let's try for Friday, March 14th at 6:30 then. Hopefully Marion and Josette will be able to make it too.

Now for the fun part. Any old or new favorite places to suggest?

I am not downtown that much anymore so for dinner I will trust your selection.

My names these days are more for lunches: Jump, Bravi, Segovia, Tutti Matti, this kind of line.

I don't get downtown much either so I don't have any bright ideas. It wouldn't take much arm twisting to get me to Tutti Matti again, but I wonder if the north end of town would be more convenient for most of us?

How far North? Like a couple of lights North of Steeles?

Marion is downtown as far as I know, Jerry and Paul come by car from Burlington and downtown seems easier for them too.

So, if downtown let's go to Tutti Matti; we've all been there, so we know what the deal is. If North I suggest Ferrovia. Marion and I have been there when we had a nice GTG with about 8 people, including Pauline and Steve. If we go to Ferrovia we can then adjourn to our house for night caps, so hopefully this is an added incentive.

I will vote for Tutti Mati.

I hosted dinner last Friday night at C5 -- the new Crystal Five restaurant at the ROM. Precious food, way too expensive and I was tempted to have a hot dog afterward. Tonight I take guests for a peek at the ROM and Gardiner, followed by prix fixe dinner at Jamie Kennedy at the Gardiner restaurant. So Tutti Mati sounds like "relief"....

Tutti Matti it is.

So far we have Jerry, Paul, Marion, Doru (and Josette?) and myself.
