We had an apartment near the Opera in 2006.

Make sure it doesn't have loft bedrooms. Too hot to sleep with the beds so close to the ceiling.

Elly, thanks for the response. We did look at some apartments that didn't show the bedrooms on their website. That made us suspicious, of course.

The apartment we chose was actually first recommended by another poster on ST. It is owned by an Australian ex-pat who lives in California wine country. Here is a link to his apartment listing:

Did you go to the Sat. music at the Liszt Academy?
The people we are renting the apartment from told us about this amazing and almost unknown event.
Former students from the Academy come back on Saturday mornings. In a very informal way -- kind of like STs impromptu GTGs.
They, 'jam', and anyone in the area is welcome to come listen.
So, are you going to be there in June, too?

Deborah, your apartment looks way better than ours. If you can fit those chairs in the bedroom, then you don't have a loft.

Our apartment, however, was called Opera and was in Andrassy street. It was situated on a very busy corner and quite noisy.

Nevertheless, our time in Budapest was great and we spent it with friends that live just over the Chain Bridge by the river.

We didn't get to attend any actual opera as the time was taken up mainly by socialising.

Will keep it in mind if and when we return.
