Calling all Mid-Atlantic Slow Travelers!

I had the lucky fortune of meeting Vicky recently and we chatted about how many STers and Italophiles live in this area. We would love to try to meet up.

We were thinking this weekend in November might work, before the craziness of the holidays starts, but are open for other dates that might work, as well.

If you live in the area or will be visiting, would you be interested?

Sign me up! I'm in town that weekend and would be happy to join. I have no car, though, so I prefer metro accessible locations. Smile

How about one of the many fabulous Asian places around? I'll do a little research. Tom Sietsema (Washington Post's restaurant critic) recently did a new list of the best DC restaurants. I'll spend some time looking at it online and see what appeals. Are we thinking lunch or dinner?

Asian sounds great! If it is Sunday, I could do lunch or dinner. Saturday I could probably do dinner, but Sunday usually is easier for me.

Diana and I would like to be included if we are available.

We really like Full Kee...a Cantonese place in Chinatown. Less convenient but terrific is Myanmar, a Burmese restaurant in Merrifield (Northern Virginia).

Or we like Himalayan Heritage in Adams-Morgan or Indique Heights in Friendship Heights.

I think we would prefer Sunday......

Being the new girl in town, I'm letting you locals pick the place! I'm good with any of the choices. Sunday works fine for us. I have invited Karen Landes, author of In Etna's Shadow, to join us. I'll let her know of the date/time we decide to make sure she and her husband can make it.

Himalayan Heritage sounds good - count two of us!

(Also Dino's and Meskerem are good.)

Should we go for Sunday? Sounds like that would work well.

As for restaurants, all those sound fine! (Well, maybe except Meskerem - I am embarrassed to say it but I am a Washingtonian that doesn't like Ethiopian food!)

An aside....I am not a big fan of Ethiopian food either but there is one Ethiopian restaurant that I think stands out from the others...Etete--on 9th Street NW just south of U Street. I find their cooking distinctive and very tasty. You might give it a try.

Himalayan Heritage if fine but--if Chinese (Cantonese) is at all appealing--I will resubmit my suggestion of Full Kee in Chinatown...hands down our favorite Chinese restaurant in town. Very unfancy but good for a group......

I'm always happy with Chinese, and the menu at Full Kee looks pretty authentic, as far as I can tell. I vote for that or Indique Heights, as it's also near a metro station. I'd prefer lunch on Sunday, since I'm one of those compulsives who needs time on Sunday night to get my head together for the following week!

Indique Heights would work for us.....it is walking distance from our apartment. They probably have a brunch buffet on Sunday at noon.

How do we reach a decision?

Maybe if we just say that #1 choice is Indique Heights for lunch/brunch on Sunday, and #2 choice is Full Kee for lunch on Sunday, then others can chime in with choice #1 or #2. OK?

OK, I vote for #2, Full Kee!

I am happy with either place....

For the record, I would just like to emphasize that Full Kee has no ambiance to speak of and it is a bit rough around the edges....but we are regulars there and love the food.

Uh, wellllll, I guess I'll just jump into the decision pool here and say Full Kee at lunch on Sunday the 15th!

Someone else gets to decide the time. Garlic Man

Forgot to mention it will be Bryan and I, so two people. Karen and her husband won't be able to make it.

Karen emailed that she and her husband *may* be able to make it; they're waiting to hear if her mom can come from Annapolis to babysit that day. I'm wondering if it's best to reserve for the 2 of them just in case? Usually easier to subtract than add to a group when you arrive.

Valerie, I think you can reserve for them, too, I agree that it is easier to subtract than to add.

Jim, I really enjoy that place as well! I work by Metro Center so it is a very easy walk after work...

See you Sunday!
