Well, one of my twins has chosen University of Puget Sound and we are headed to the Seattle area. We will be in Tacoma for a few days and have extended our stay a few more days to explore Seattle.

One of my cousins will be with me and we were wondering if anyone would be up for a GTG?

We say goodbye to Alex on saturday the 25 and are moving to Seattle that afternoon. (We are still looking at hotels and I will post a question about that in the North America forum.)

So, anyone up for something either sat night or sunday the 26? We leave on tuesday so monday would work as well.

I know it is late notice but if something could work out that would be great!

Brenda

Hi Brenda,
I just saw this thread. I would love a GTG and hopefully some other Seattlelites will respond too. Marta?

Any of the dates would work for us; but the weekend is best (25 or 26). Let me know what your schedule is and we can talk about a place to meet.

Too bad you won't be here for the GTG in Vancouver.

I'm up for a GTG. This is right before I leave for France but I should be able to make it. Saturday or Sunday would be best for me also.

Great!

How about sunday? We will be in Tacoma until saturday afternoon but maybe I should leave saturday night open in case my son wants me to take him out for one last dinner. The orientation info says 5-7 dinner and farewells on your own!

So, should we do lunch or dinner or drinks or what?

Too bad I won't be around for the Vancouver GTG-I love Vancouver. Smile I have to be back home in time to take the other twin up to his school in Vermont.

How about lunch on Sunday? Scott and I have been trying different restaurants in Seattle every week before our Italian class and have come across a few good ones. However, Marta always has the best recommendations whenever anyone asks about restaurants in Seattle so I think she should choose. I'm looking forward to hearing about your France trip!

I'm sure Scott will want to join us especially since Brenda is a fellow Bostonian.

I wonder if any of the Vancouver gang would want to make the drive down?

Me... not me. I was hoping you'd have a recommendation Ann. Big Grin

I do think lunch would be good. If it is just the 5-6 of us, maybe Cafe Campagne in the Market?

Where are you taking Italian, Ann?

Okay, let's do lunch. My cousin will be with me too-she is coming on the whole trip to keep me company and have some fun together.

I'm looking forward to this trip. I'll be sad to leave my son so far away but I'm excited for his new adventure.

I haven't been to Seattle since I was in college so this will be great!

Oh Marta, Cafe Campagne is perfect!

We're taking Italian at La Scuola Italiana. It's next to Two Bells Tavern (love their burgers) and the woman who teaches it also owns the tavern with her husband. She is American but her family is from Abruzzo. It's a very small class only about 6 or 7 of us and I think she's very good. Scott and I are hoping to get a couple of classes in before we go to Italy next Spring.

Brenda, if there is anything you need to help with your trip please let me know. I'll see if there are any events happening while you're here and send you a message. And, although we don't live near UPS we could certainly be a resource for your son if he needs anything. I'll be sure that you have our phone numbers.

Great. Let's see if we get any other Seattle area members to join us.

Ann, your Italian school looks great. I'd heard of the Dante Society classes but not this school. It is good to know what is available in Seattle. I'm currently taking French at Alliance Francais which is fun but tough.

Darn. We have a wedding on the 25th (which means not fit to drive on the 26th) or I'd head on down & return the favor to all the Seattle ST folks who've come up for GTGs.

The restaurant looks wonderful. Thumbs Up

I am looking forward to meeting everyone. Ann, thank you for offering to help Alex. We don't know anyone in the area and your offering to be a resource is very comforting. It is so far away.

Yes, if anyone hears of anything special going on we would love to know about it.

Lesfaye, we can chat a bit about moving to London!

Sheena, I'd love to meet you if you can work it out. Janie, darn that wedding. Wink Grin

This is going to be fun. Happy My cousin will be surprised.

Ummmm ... Sheena, when were you thinking of heading down to Seattle? If on morning of the 26th maybe I could hitch a ride and sleep in the back seat. Our home is on the way to the border. Call me shameless.

Janie, If we go down on the 26th you are more than welcome to the back seat! Big Grin

Let's stay in touch, I'll know our plans closer to the date.

Brenda, since you will be in Tacoma try to find time to visit The Museum of Glass, especially if you are a Chihuly fan.

Hi All,

Is it too late to get in on this? I actually have that weekend off and would love to meet other fellow travellers. Has there been an actual time and place chosen yet?

Hi Tom,
Not too late at all. I'm thinking noon on Sunday, August 26 and we've been talking about Cafe Campagne in the Market.

Marta, I can make reservations if you like. So far we have:

Brenda and her Cousin
Marta (George too?)
Scott and I
Lesfaye
Tom

and maybe, Sheena, Terry and Janie from B.C.; however, I hear from Sheena that that might not be too likely.

Tom, I see that you are a Chef. Where at?

Ann, that would be great. I appreciate the offer. I'll find out if George is interested in coming or not.

Tom, yes definitely join us. This will be a great opportunity to meet the Seattle Slow Travelers. We haven't had a GTG in Seattle before although there have been several in Vancouver.

Great count me in. Sounds like fun.

Ann, I am more of a glorified line cook at Swedish hospital. I work on the Hot Ala Carte line for patient services. But I think Chef sounds so much better.

I'm bumping this up just in case anyone else might want to attend the GTG next weekend - Sunday, 8/26. I'll make the reservations next week.

Marta, Lesfaye, and Tom could you please let me know if others will be attending with you?

Can't wait to see everyone!

Tom, I know that the "chefing" you do is much appreciated by anyone who has had to spend hours at Swedish visting loved ones.

Hi Ann, Thanks for bumping this.

George isn't going to be able to make the lunch so it will only be me. It will be great to see everyone.

Hi Ann,

It will be just myself on the 26th. I am looking forward to meeting everybody. I do have a question, where exactly in the market is Cafe Campagne?

Also, I am not quite as savvy on SlowTrav as I am on Fodors.com, but how do I post a link to photos from my first 2 trips to Europe? (For those that are interested?) Try www.pbase.com/trsw

Hi everyone,
Just got back from the Adirondacks (where I don't have computer access).

It's a very wild time in my house as my Arctic Expedition guys arrived home the night before last. Happy They drove in shifts all through the night to get home early. Smile Thumbs Up Everyone is healthy, thin and happy.

We are really looking forward to this GTG. I'm also excited about exploring Seattle for a few days. Tomorrow I am going to have some time to plan a little bit.

Thanks Ann for making the reservations. I leave for Seattle this wednesday night and I might be able to check in on a computer(at one of the hotels) but just in case I'll give you my cell phone- in a private topic. Oh, and my cousin's name is Sandy.

See you soon.
Brenda

My mom really wants me to go to a lunch with her on Sunday, family friends from far away. So although I was going to sleep all the way down in the back of Sheena & Terry's car, will have to make do with knowing that we will at least see Ann & Scott on Sept. 1 !!
