I claimed my final prize of the Slow Travel contest this past Saturday in the form of dinner at the home of Ruth/Boleskine (not to mention a copy of her and Shannon's book Chow! Venice). Just want to say that Laurie and I had a great time with Ruth and her family. In addition to Martin, we also got to meet Ruth's son, daughter-in-law and five month old grandson. There was much enjoyable talk about Venice, babies (Laurie and I are expecting our first on June 1) and everything in between. Thank you Ruth, and thank you Slow Travel.

Details, Daniel, details! What did you eat? The thing I enjoy most about Ruth's trip reports are her many many food comments....whether she's shopping for the food, preparing the food, or eating in a restaurant, food is always at the forefront...where it should be, of course! Please tell us what wonderful dishes Ruth cooked up for you!

Whoops, sorry about that! We started with a delicious goat cheese and tomato tart that was served with a frissante wine. Seconds for everybody on that one!

Then we moved to the dining room, where we had baked chicken that had a parmesean breading, roasted vegetables and a salad. Washed that all down with a refreshing pinot grigio.

Dessert was a decadently dense, dark cake (sort of like a pound cake density) with fruit going through it. This was all topped off with a perfectly executed espresso.

The meal was unfussy and delightful, and we enjoyed it very much. Thumbs Up
