Sharon Z will be in San Francisco for a week in February, so what better way to kick off the new year than to plan a Bay Area GTG?
We've been talking about the new restaurant SPQR, and it looks like a good place to go with a group. (Lots of appetizer plates!)
They're not open for lunch on the weekend, and they don't take reservations, but I think if we get there right at 5:30 (early, I know) we shouldn't have a problem getting a table.
How does that sound to everyone?
Hope to see you at SPQR!
Colleen
Based on reviews, we need to be at SPQR BEFORE they open!

You know, I've been thinking that I/we could use a weekend in San Francisco - give me a few days to get this household over the flu, and maybe this will work out. Great idea, Colleen.
New Year, new restaurants, old and new friends . . .
Hello everyone, I just dragged the suitcase down from the attic and dusted it off. I am really looking forward to our San Francisco GTG! It will be great to meet the faces behind the posts. We get in SF on Sunday, so keep your fingers crossed for good weather.
What seemed like a good idea at the time, sigh. If we get away for the long weekend, I think we will only get as far as Santa Cruz this time. BUT, I know we will be spending a few days in SF in mid-July (thanks Blue Shield for scheduling one of David's meetings on my summer break), and perhaps some of us can meet for dinner then.
Sharon, have a great time in CA, sorry we won't get to meet you.
Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but a warning -- I was looking at reviews for SPQR and found this:
quote:
Knowing about the no reservation policy we decided to arrive when the doors open at 5:30 so we could make our 7:00 movie time at the Clay. Arriving at 5:20 we were actually persons number 14 and 15 waiting for the doors to open. By the time they did, there were 33 people in line. 33. Thirty-Three.
Since this is only a 45 seat restaurant, lining up early might be in the best interests of everyone involved.
Judy
PS: Sharon - today was a glorious shirt-sleeve day in downtown SF! Enjoy every minute of your stay.

Thanks for the heads up on timing for dinner, Judy! Sounds like SPQR has remained popular, even with a new chef in the kitchen. I'll probably be in the City early that day, so will try to be there by 5pm ... 5:15 at the latest.
For those interested in wine tasting on Saturday ...
The world's largest competition of American wines, the SFCWC is much more than a wine tasting. It’s a wine and food experience, heightened by breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin County, and the San Francisco Bay. Featured at this event will be a tasting of hand-crafted creations from some of the world's premier artisan food purveyors, including award winning artisan breads, savory meats, exotic oils, hand crafted cheeses, delicious desserts, floral jams, sumptuous sauces, and fabulous creations from Bay Area restaurants.

We are back from our trip to Colorado Springs ... and I am sick. Every one was sick while we were there so there isn't any surprise with this.
And with having been gone the weekend before the Springs - totally enjoying ourselves with other STer's - we think we may need to bow out of this weekends party at SPQR.
If, when Fri. comes around and we feel up to it may we join the group, since there isn't a reservation? I will be sure to post either way.
I would love to meet SharonZ and see all the rest in the City, but we aren't sure right now.
Our very best to all
