It's certainly the fastest route. Going via Grosseto would take you an extra hour. Plus less scenic views... Big Grin

Mary T...I sent you an email asking you if you'd like to take the train from Foligno to Orte, stay overnight here in Vetralla and drive up with us on Saturday morning... let me know.

I also have to get a price for the dinner from Alessandro.

Gloria
I would suggest asking a quotation for a fixed menu dinner that includes drinks.

I am sure they will come up with some wonderful ideas so that we can all taste the typical local foods and they will also be able to give us a better price.

I agree with Letizia. Simpler and easier (and cheaper?) all around.

That's what I thought, but I did not want to "dictate", so I wanted your opinion too.
Ok, I'll do that tomorrow.

I'll be sharing with Giulia, sì. I am probably driving Mary T, and arriving 19th January. I still am a bit confused about what we are doing so I can't tell whether I should stay over the 19 only or the 19th and 20th?

I'm planning on staying in Civitella the 18th and 19th. I'm flying home from Pisa on the 21st, so I'm staying in Florence the night of the 20th.

Whatever happens, whatever the plan, we will enjoy it. We should get there around mid-day on the 19th and assume the "main event" will be the afternoon and evening of Saturday, the 19th. Tentatively, we are planning on leaving the next morning. Hopefully early enough to catch a service at Sant'Antimo, but we can be flexible with our departure on the 20th.

Can a tour guide new to "the biz" come (and can I call it the biz...hehehehehe).

I have been a little out of the loop, but Gloria was kind enough to send me an email and invite me. The husband and I hope to come (fingers crossed). I am really looking forward to meeting all of you and seeing some of my friends (Judith) again after all this time.

Can't WAIT!

I was just wondering if we had an updated list? Is there anything that I can help with?

Hi Judith and all,

I could stay the two nights, the 19th and 20th if that is your plan, Judith. But if you plan on staying the 1 night only, the 19th, that is fine also for me. If you come through the P. S. Giovanni area, I could meet you there the morning of the 19th. Would that work for you?

I confirm, Gloria, that I need a single room at the event locanda, hopefully. As soon as I know Judith's plans I will let you know if it is for one or two nights. OK?

How I look forward to meeting all of you!

Mary

Updates! We filled up both B&B in the village. Don't worry because they are really REALLY close, you will see. I spoke with Alessandro from la Locanda and he is setting up for us a "meeting room" for the afternoon of the 19th. I think he believes that we are meeting for some serious stuff... I tried to explain that all we needed was some chairs, tables and wine glasses!!!

He will send me the proposal for the dinner in a couple of days.

Question, do you want a menu that goes from the antipasto to the dessert or we make dessert an extra and who wants it, orders it?

second question: are there any vegetarians?

third: except for deborah, who needs a room for the night of the 18th?

I think Melissa does, right?

Please, let me know before the 6th, so that I can confirm the reservation. I will let you have your definite accommodation details by the end of next week.

Gloria, Alessandro is right--this is serious stuff--especially the part about the wine.
Speaking of wine, I do not see Kevin Widrow's name on the latest list. I hope the sole French representative hasn't dropped out. Italian wines will prevail in the wine-off ayway, but I would hope not by default.

Regarding desert, I suggest that be an extra for those who want it. If it is, maybe while there I can pay a tad bit more than mere lip-service to the post-holiday diet I am subjected to.
Thank you for your work in putting this GTG together.

Because he wrote to me in November to say that he might not be able to make it. I haven't heard from him ever since. I will send him an email now.

Thank you for pointing this out! hope I won't mess things up!!!

As for the dessert, this is what I asked Alessandro. I am glad you agree!

As for the seriousness, I am just worried he might actually expect some speeches on slow travel and the business!!! Big Grin Actually it would be tremendously cool to exchange experiences. I am nosy! Big Grin

Menu (28 euros per person)

- Aperitivo

- Antipasto misto (a selection of appetisers)
("rivolto" - atypical sort of crepes made in this area with pancetta and cheese, crostini, affettato (cured meats) and another vegetable based appetiser)

- Lasagnetta ai funghi porcini (single portion lasagna with porcini mushrooms)

- Cinghiale in umido alla civitellina (stewed wild bore in the style of the village)

- contorni : polenta grigliata e rapi saltati
(side dish: grilled polenta and fried... I don't know what rapi are in English, they are like spinach but slightly bitter)

- Caffè

- Beverages (wine and water)

Is this ok?

Menu sounds fine to me.

Mary, I don't know if Giulia plans to stay one night or two. She's my roomie.

I see that Mary Jane has offered you yet another option. Have you thought about which plan is easiest on you? At any rate, I shall be happy to give you a lift from P S Giovanni if you want it.

Hi Judith,

I am tied up at the hospital the 18th. I am hoping that you go for the one night, the 19th, so that I will be able to take advantage of the ride from P. San Giovanni. If that is NOT the case do let me know please ASAP so I can TRY to find another way to get to the GTG the day of the 19th. Thanks so much Judith.
