So, it's coming closer and closer...Joanna's Dancing Man
My granddarling TiaD and I were talking earlier this afternoon about our trip this summer and it dawned on me that it's about time to start posting about a GTG while we are in Paris.

If you would like to meet us for lunch, a picnic in Jardins Luxembourg or something delightful like that, let's plan!

July is a warm month.
A picnic in the Versailles garden (admission free!) is not out of the question. And a picnic appeals to children too.
Sunday afternoon will also have the fountains going. But in that case bring food AND ear plugs if you don't want to sacrifice your eardrums to the garden's pathetic sound system. We'll just communicate by pantomime.

Some of us oldsters find sitting on the grass to be a tad uncomfortable.

Tom and Judy,
I understand about sitting on the grass. I was thinking more of taking up table and chairs, if there are any available in the gardens.

If it's beastly hot at that time, trust me, I want an air-conditioned restaurant! I know, I know, I'm a bit of a baby/princess, but I don't want to sit and roast in the heat of the day.

Americana in Parigi,
Thanks for the heads up about the fountains. This is my first time in this area of Paris, so I am green as grass when it comes to knowing what would work for everyone. I'm totally open to options!

chachalaca... Frown Awwww, no, that would have been cool!

Mods, would you please move this post to the GTG section for me?
Merci beaucoup!

Brenda, I will keep on eye on this thread. We will still be based in Paris but we do have some short trips planned. When I find out what our schedule is, I will let you know if we can come. Wine Wine

We may have to bump this GTG date up a little, maybe closer to the 7th or 8th, as I have just booked our flights and darling TiaD leaves for home around the 12th. I'd love it if she could be there to meet my ST friends. She has been lurking in the shadows on the board, reading all of your posts and topics, soaking everything up and getting more excited as the days go by.

So, I'll stay in touch and plan this as it unfolds! Hopefully, there will be a great group of Slowtravellers in Paris when we are there, as well!

Topping this, just to let you know that we'll be available for a GTG with everyone anytime on the 7th, 8th, 9th of July. TiaD and I will arrive in Paris on the previous weekend and she leaves for home on the 11th, so these dates seem most likely for us.
Are there other days that are better for anyone else?

I'm thinking an early dinner with lots of time after for visiting would be perfect, later on when the day has cooled down a little, considering the possibility that we will be experiencing some hot weather then.

I'm also wide open for suggestions for a great spot to meet, so please let me know where you think wold be good! Somewhere in the 6th, near Luxembourg Jardins would make it easy for us...and I know my way around that area a little bit.

Toping, again!

Tom and Judy, Americana in Parigi, just travels, Dave and Arlynn...if you are able to join us, what day and time is best for you for a lunch or dinner GTG in Paris? A weekday or on the weekend?

We're good to go for these days:
July 8
July 9
July 12 - 17

If it is scorching hot while we are there, let's choose a cool location, please! An A/C'ed location or evening when it is cooler?

(We have a thread on the Paris section about this GTG, as well, so I'm going to post the information here also! B.)

Lunch sounds excellent, Dave, Tom and Judy, Americana in Parigi, just travel and any other Slowtravelers who can come...
What day would be best for everyone? I'm fine with July 7th, 8th or 9th next week, or the 14th, 15th, 16th the following week.
Tom, you mentioned anywhere from the 3rd - 7th and the 12th - 15th, so we've lots of days that are workable! Dave, you said any day for lunch, so that is perfect.

How about the 7th or the 14th?

Any suggestions for a cool place to meet, or would you like me to source out somewhere easy to find, once we are there? I have the time to do that, being on vacation!

Looking forward to meeting everyone, finally!
I love Slowtrav GTG's, because it is such a treat to meet people I've only known online.

The 14th is THE national hliday of France. Better make it another day, I would think. We hope to make the 10 AM parade, but pass on the fireworks up close as getting home with a million other people could be an ordeal.

Judy's cousin arrives from Copenhaven on the 9th and departs in the evening of the 11th. If the best available time for everypne is during that timeframe then maybe one of us will make the lunch or purhaps all three of us. (She works for SAS and has been everywhere).

We are open to any date.

Will be out of town the 9th. Lunch is fine any day after the 9th. Or a late dinner, starting 9:40 p.m., or joining you at that time for an after-dinner drink.

Tom, what time is the parade on Champs Elysees tomorrow? And what time is the fireworks at Tour Eiffel?

My apologies for not getting back to everyone about this...here are a few options. What would be best for everyone?

Time: 1:00 P.M. or earlier, at 11:00 A.M.

Date: Wed. July 16th or Thurs.July 17th

Location: A suggestion ~ Bread and Roses Cafe and Bakery Food is delicious! There are tables and seating inside, and a few outside, but not for a lot of people, so it would depend on how many are coming.

Another place I'd like to try ~ Le Soufflot Cafe.

Any other favorites?

À bientôt!

Wednesday is fine, breakfast, lunch or VERY LATE dinner. But 1 p.m. is too late for lunch. (I have to set out for work at 1 p.m.)

Going to Normandy on Thursday,

Dave,
Early lunch/late breakfast works for me about 11:00 A.M.
I've suggested the 2 locations above, because I know where they are, the food's great at Bread and Roses and I'm sure not to get lost finding them! Is there somewhere else that would be more convenient for you?

Tom and Judy,
Sorry to miss you!
Perhaps another time, then.

just travel, Americana in Parigi...will we have the pleasure of your company?Joanna's Dancing Man Wine

The fireworks are just going on as I'm writing this, and I have a few good photos even from this distance! Very beautiful display tonight.

We can come. We would prefer Bread and Roses Cafe and Bakery, I think.

11:00 a.m. is a bit too early for lunch for us. But a drink and pastry would be great, if you don't mind. We can watch you eat lunch. Big Grin
