Well am I slow responding to the new date or what?!! We went on an Alaskan Cruise the first part of June and am just now checking in. The cruise was absolutely awesome! I definitely would recommend the Holland American Line's Oosterdam. We embarked/disembarked from Seattle and the ports of call, scenery, food, entertainment and service were amazing.
On October 21st I will just be returning from a one-week training class that I will be conducting in Southern California. Normally, I travel home on Saturday; however, I can take a redeye flight. I was wondering what time we are thinking about? Noon to whenever, like Chattanooga? I would be interested in staying overnight since I probably won't be recuperated from traveling from California the night before and then driving to Nashville.
It all sounds great!!
Lynn, I'll be on the lookout for the booksigning in Birmingham.
I was just thinking about this (as we had an invite to something on 10/21 in Ohio, but I'drather do this )
Are there any times or details? This will be my first GTG - I can't wait!
What is the name of the specific town? I'm asking so I can figure out the best/closest place to stay (we're hooked on Marriott points, so it'll be one of their properties).
Will there be a page on Slow Trav with "just the facts"? It's kind of hard for me to focus in on the details amongst the other *chat* that goes along with a discussion about a GTG. My ADD, I guess
t-mac, We haven't firmed up all the details yet, but if we follow the form of the Chattanooga GTG we all gathered in the afternoon for drinks and then had dinner around 7:00. I am hosting it at my house and am open to whatever anyone wants to do. There is a Marriott Courtyard in Brentwood that I think some of the other Slow Travler's are staying at. That is about 10 minutes from our house. We can also house some here. We have three extra bedrooms with three baths and a basement with a bunch of beds and a bath that would be good for a family. (though not deluxe!) We also have a pool if anyone is inclined to want to swim.If everyone brings wine, appetizer, or desert I can make the salad and main course. I am also more than happy to do breakfast Sunday morning for those still around. It should be fun and I am really looking forward to it! I Hope you can join us! Linda

Just wanted to touch base with everyone regarding the SlowTrav Southeastern GTG on Saturday, October 21st. Thanks again Linda for so graciously agreeing to host this!
As previously discussed, there are two Marriott properties conveniently located near Linda's house. (Courtyard & Residence Inn) However, according to the Marriott website, they are fully booked for that weekend. However there are alternatives.. Mainstay Suites, Comfort Inn& Suites, Hilton Suites and Sleep Inn are also located in Brentwood. I have only checked on the Mainstay Suite property and it does have availability. Also previously discussed was the possibility of obtaining a group rate, but unless there is a commitment for at least several rooms the rate would not be that advantageous.
So that's the scoop so far. It would be great if we could start getting a head count of who will be able to attend this GTG.
The Wood family (Kathy, Charley and Kelly) will definitely be there!
We will plan to stay overnight somewhere. I checked the Marriott website and it looks like there are a couple of other properties within 15 minutes of Brentwood, which wouldn't be bad if it means a free room. But it would also be fun to stay overnight where some other STers are staying, have breakfast in the morning etc. if we can find a place with a decent rate...
Craig & I would like to come if possible. What hotel are you trying to get a group rate at? Were we talking about a B&B earlier? I can get airfare today for $193.00 on Northwest. Should we rent a car or is there a shuttle?
We will be happy to shuttle anyone who needs a ride from the airport. Also, if anyone wants to borrow a car to do a little "sight seeing" on Saturday they are more than welcome. I am going to go check on B&B's in Franklin today. Franklin is a charming historic town with lots to do, and most of it can be done on foot. I'll get back with what I find.

The Traveling McMahans will be there. We'll be jet-lagged, broke and with zero Marriott points (blowing them all on four night in the Paris Champs Elysee propoerty that week) but we can't wait! Linda, if you are still offering a place to stay, we'll take you up on it.
Well crap, lost my $196.00 price and the package deals have the worst flight times. Fly out of Ft. Myers at 7 a.m. or 6:15 p.m. and have to fly back from Nashville in the morning at 6 or 7 a.m. Yuck!!!! I'm going to keep looking but maybe it's time for a road trip.
Yeehaw (as we say down here in Alabubba)!! Ed & I will be there, but I don't know yet if he wants to stay over or drive back home that night. I'll try to get an answer outta him tonight at dinner. Do yawl think we should kinda coordinate what we're bringing? I mean - I sure don't mind 15 dolces, but others might not have as big a sweet tooth. I'll watch what's posted and fill in whatever's needed (except for salad.

Earline and T-mac, Yes, there is room at the Yoder no-tell Motel for you! Here is the list of who will be staying at our house. Earline and Cal? Kathy, Charley, and Kelly Wood. (kaydee) Leslie, Brent and Riley Erickson The McMahan's (t-mac) We are now full...unless the guest house ends up being available. I have two great B&B's in the area. I'm waiting to hear about rates and availability. I'll post later about it. Those of you travelling a good distance, don't worry about bringing food. Just grab some wine and come and party!

Linda, in this instance Cal is not a question mark. Not like last time when I referenced the looking outside to see if Hell had indeed frozen over. He had such a good time at Susan's place that he is eager to return to another GTG.
We'll be good for wine. Everybody else can bring dessert -- I'm allergic to it anyway. Wine is good.
Yay - it's a slumber party! THanks for putting us up. We will bring some sort of a veg-friendly dish. Hmmm, since we will be just returning from Paris, I wonder what I could bring from there??
It is the perfect mix for a perfect GTG -- prosecco, lots of crazy people, world travelers, prosecco, a few world-traveler kids thrown in to temper everything, great food, oh -- and did I mention the prosecco?
Here are some B&B's I found in the area. 1- the closest but the most expensive -Brentwood B &B- www.brentwoodbandb.com rates are $145.00- $225.00
2-Magnolia House http://www.bbonline.com/tn/magnolia/ This one is located on a busy street but very close to the historic center of Franklin. The rates are $95.00 $115.00
3-Old Marshall House www.oldmarshallhouse.com This is the farthest away. It is located not very far off the interstate, but in the country down a long gravel road. Rates are $115.00-$165.00 (the 165.00 is a separate cabin)
4- Namaste Acres Country Ranch Inn http://www.bbonline.com/tn/namaste/ This one is located in Liepers Fork, which is another great small town surrounded by beautiful horse farms. It is a 10 minute drive into Franklin from here and a 20 minute drive to our house. Rates are $95.00 with Breakfast
All of these told me they book up very quickly for the Fall so don't wait too long. (especially if you all want to be together!)
If there is anything else on my part that I can check out for anyone just email me or give me a call! hm 615-377-8919 cell 615-708-7903
When it is closer I will post directions.I am guessing we will meet in the late afternoon for appetizers and drinks and have dinner around 6:30-7:00.
If you have never been to the town of Franklin I would suggest you come in early and enjoy the town! There are some great Civil War sites that history buffs will love! There is also great shopping, eating, and antiguing in Franklin!!! No worries men.. there is a starbucks you can relax at while you are waiting for your wives to either run out of steam or money!
We look forward to see you all soon!!
Linda

Ginger, None of these B&B's are in walking distance, nor any of the hotels for that matter. We live in between Brentwood and Franklin on 4 acres. If you are flying in we can arrange a pick up at the airport and I would be happy to loan you a car if you need one.Leslie is also going to look into some hotels in Brentwood. Someone had asked about B&B's so I just looked these up for consideration. I hope you can come! Linda
