It looks as if I will be in Bologna from June 3 - 11. I'll be hanging on the couch in the apartment that Palma has rented. She will be hard at work with language class and I shall be . . . well . . . hard at work exploring, eating, drinking, shopping, napping, and sipping wine. I'll likely do a series of day trips but there is tons of time to figure that out.

First things first though . . . will anyone else be in Bologna at that time?

Do you want to GTG for lunch, dinner, wine sipping, a cooking class . . . the possibilities are rather endless.

Any and all of the above sound good, and delicious.

We will be in Bologna for a slight overlap of your dates. If I have it straight, we will be in and around Parma June 5-8, then in Bologna proper 9-13. I think a cooking class on one of our days might be something worth looking into, and if you want to daytrip to Parma while we are there, that is another possibility. At any rate, we should be able to arrange a dinner with you and Palma, at the very least.

Cin-cin,

It's looking like party time!

We (husband, Ken and I) will be in Bologna, too. Only 3 nights for us--June 9, 10, 11. I think we will train to Florence after that for a night or 2. This is all during our 1 month in Venice.

I'm up for anything but can't spend too much $$$.

Cool - I'll be taking the train to Venice for a quick day trip. I know it isn't slowtravel but there is no way I can be THAT close to beautiful Venice and not pop in!

I should have looked at the calendar, but looking at it today, we arrive in Bologna on the 8th for 5 nights, leaving the morning of the 13th.

Jerry, I am looking into a cooking class, just in the gathering info stages, could do it either the 9th or 10th, if you are interested - we can talk later. Of course, I have yet to mention this to Mr. Budget.

Are you secretly married to MY husband?

Let me know about the cooking class--doubtful for me but maybe...

Jerry, it wasn't slow travel, but I did the same last June when I was in Bologna.

I had a week there, and couldn't resist a day trip to Venice. Took the Eurostar in the morning and returned mid-evening. It was great!

I hope you'll have a wonderful time in Bologna!

Best,
Sandra

How could I not Sandra. It seems that you, Mindy, Colleen, and Palma have done so much 'pre-research' that the rest of us just have to print out blog posts, trip reports, thread comments and 'poof' - we have a guide book!

I hope to take some photography lessons this winter so that I can get great shots of the mosaics in Ravenna.

What is this oddity known as 'Mr. Budget'? I don't think I'd much like that creature. I prefer the 'when in Italy there is NO budget' way of thinking.

Marcia - was this the cooking class that you were looking at? I believe it is the one that Mindy and Colleen did as a part of their food and drink extravaganza last year. I am planning on doing this but it sure would be better with company! Happy

Jerry, yes that would probably be my first choice. And it would definitely be fun to do it with you, if you can wait and do it on one of the days that we overlap, which I think would be the 9th or the 10th.

Mr. Budget seems to be on board, as every trip deserves one splurgy day, that and we have a 35th anniversary coming up, not on the trip, but close enough.

Have you had any contact with Bluone?

I'm so envious, Jerry, your plans sound great -- I'd love to go back to Ravenna, the mosaics were stunning!

If anyone is there from May 22 on, I'll be all by my lonesome until everyone else comes to play (and eat) with me! Guess I'll study hard the first 2 weeks, and only speak Italian to my friends. Big Grin

Marcia - I've contacted them to see if they could handle us on the 9th or 10th. This will be so cool.

Palma you'll know so many good spots by the time I get there! It will be nothing but eating and drinking for me. Pig

Aww that is just so sweet. Blushing Heart

They are such a nice family. And shopping with down to earth Raffaella and their lovely daughter Francesca in one of the best market cities in Italy is magical.

Here is a picture that Mindy took of them as we were watching expert pasta makers as part of our market tour.

Wow, Jerry, thank you so much for all of your travel planning. We are good with either day, so you may decide. We get to Bologna sometime on the 8th, so it really doesn't matter. If the 9th is best for Marcello, we're happy to do that one.

Just let me know what we need to do money wise, to secure the date.

And we get to see colleen and Mindy before Bologna, more fun.

IF I could leave from Bologna airport on the 10th instead of the 8th... which would mean 4 days in Bologna instead of 2, which would mean more than a month in Italy instead of the 2 weeks Mr NoTravel is aware of...

Sandi, what Jan says!

This week in Bologna is turning out to be THE place to be.

Perhaps after you book your flight online you could suddenly call out 'well, shoot!' in your best southern accent. Then explain that you booked your flights (which can't be cancelled, of course) and you entered the wrong dates thereby forcing you to stay for a month.

Being the stellar actress that you are I know that you could convince Bill! Wink

That technique has worked plenty of times before.

I do believe you and Gail used a similar routine on me once. It was followed by Palma's 'how nice'.

I am bummed that I will miss this by just a few weeks! I will be in Bologna for a week in mid-May.

Would it be bad form to start another thread asking for people who are in Bologna between May 10 and May 17? I don't want to steal the thunder of this GTG, but would love for my mom and I to meet up with people when we are there.

I agree with Jerry.

Do it.
These June dates are, to some degree, by coincidence.
