I'm collecting gifts for our white elephant exchange here at the store and ran across what HAS to be the tackiest souvenir in the history of the world.
I'm not exaggerating.
So I thought, wouldn't it be cool to take it to SlowBowl as a special gift for someone who recently visited Paris.
Then I thought, wouldn't it be fun to have a tacky souvenir exchange (and maybe a contest, since I KNOW I'd win)?
Anyone interested?

Oooo.. this sounds fun.

I was also thinking of a book exchange - I've got some travel guidebooks I don't want or need anymore. Anything leftover I could donate to the Paso Robles Library shop.

Tacky souvenir show and tell/exchange sounds fun - but now I have to try and find something appropriately tacky among all of my sophisticated treasures (hah!)

And Shannon - we did a travel book exchange at the Bay Area picnic this summer and it was great fun. I ended up bringing home almost as many as I took! And KT took the leftovers to the library store here.

Gee - only about 6 weeks away now. Could someone please tell me what I should pack, and what the weather will be?

I like both ideas!

And Judy, I would say that you need to check weather closer to the date, since as you know, California winters are fickle. Last year we had had sunny, cool days and much colder nights, but we weren't really out at night.

Oh, and comfy from the sounds of the eating and drinking that will be going on. I doubt this is of much help, sorry.

Judy, Last year on Saturday morning, it was 41 degrees with thick fog. I know, because I was outside smoking with my coffee looking a lot like Nanook of the North. Dapper It warmed up to the 50s by the third winery (or maybe I did). It was 60 degrees and sunny at 10 AM when I was shopping in Cambria. Big Grin It was nice and warm in the cheese shop and bead store. Happy

Great! This will be fun.
I'm going through my guide books right now. But I'm having trouble letting go of any. Eek

Hmmm...now I have to see if the girls will part with any of theirs. But I have to admit, some tacky souvenirs really appeal to me. Big Grin

Off topic, Kim, but would Chris care for a souvenir from Volpi's?

Can anyone describe what constitutes a 'Tacky Souvenir'?

I live in a major tourist area, so much potential here, but are you referring to something one bought while traveling?

Blushing Thanks

Here I am! Smile

You all can run with the the Tackiest Souvenir Contest ... and I'll help Shannon with the book exchange. Cool

I think tacky is an indefinable quality. You can't explain what constitutes tacky, but your sure know it when you see it.
Kind of like when an old man with a beer gut wears low ride jeans -- tacky. When a young hunk with a six pack does -- far from tacky.

But just remember, one man's tacky is another man's treasure.

E.g., the tower of Pisa statue that sammi has, that changes colors based upon the weather.

I see that we're doing a book exchange -- are we doing the tacky souvenir exchange as well?

I'm bringing mine, Beth. Go ahead and bring something. If it just you and me, we'll just trade. Wink
