I'm collecting gifts for our white elephant exchange here at the store and ran across what HAS to be the tackiest souvenir in the history of the world. I'm not exaggerating. So I thought, wouldn't it be cool to take it to SlowBowl as a special gift for someone who recently visited Paris. Then I thought, wouldn't it be fun to have a tacky souvenir exchange (and maybe a contest, since I KNOW I'd win)? Anyone interested?

I was also thinking of a book exchange - I've got some travel guidebooks I don't want or need anymore. Anything leftover I could donate to the Paso Robles Library shop.
Tacky souvenir show and tell/exchange sounds fun - but now I have to try and find something appropriately tacky among all of my sophisticated treasures (hah!)
And Shannon - we did a travel book exchange at the Bay Area picnic this summer and it was great fun. I ended up bringing home almost as many as I took! And KT took the leftovers to the library store here.
Gee - only about 6 weeks away now. Could someone please tell me what I should pack, and what the weather will be?

And Judy, I would say that you need to check weather closer to the date, since as you know, California winters are fickle. Last year we had had sunny, cool days and much colder nights, but we weren't really out at night.
Oh, and comfy from the sounds of the eating and drinking that will be going on. I doubt this is of much help, sorry.
Judy, Last year on Saturday morning, it was 41 degrees with thick fog. I know, because I was outside smoking with my coffee looking a lot like Nanook of the North. It warmed up to the 50s by the third winery (or maybe I did). It was 60 degrees and sunny at 10 AM when I was shopping in Cambria. It was nice and warm in the cheese shop and bead store.
Great! This will be fun. I'm going through my guide books right now. But I'm having trouble letting go of any.

Off topic, Kim, but would Chris care for a souvenir from Volpi's?

I think tacky is an indefinable quality. You can't explain what constitutes tacky, but your sure know it when you see it. Kind of like when an old man with a beer gut wears low ride jeans -- tacky. When a young hunk with a six pack does -- far from tacky.

I'm bringing mine, Beth. Go ahead and bring something. If it just you and me, we'll just trade.
