I am England from 22 Dec 2007 to Jan 12 2008 based in Sevenoaks, Kent and would like to GTG for a casual chatty lunch or dinner. A pub meal would be great.

Is anyone interested?

Sounds a possibility for at least one of us.

Steve and I will be in the Cotswolds during this time and would love to GTG. Towards the later end of your date range would be best for us - we arrive in Bath Jan 2, move to the cottage Jan 4.

Hello, we were away when this thread started so I've only just seen it. I hope I shall be able to come and meet you all.

Hello,
Are we going to do this ?
Perhaps we should be moving towards suggesting a couple of possible dates?

I am on vacation so day and time is probably easier for me.
We are leaving on Sunday 13 Jan, so Friday evening or Saturday are a possibility.

I hope a UK resident/Londoner would be able to suggest an easy to get to venue. Is it Saturday, or only Sunday when it is free to drive into London and park?

I leave on Saturday the 12th and arrive on the 1st of January so anytime during them would be great.

John, it's 18:00 Friday to 07:00 Monday (unless I'm entirely, totally wrong -- which has happened on occasion, but I don't think so this time Wink Grin).

I'm afraid I don't know pubs in London well enough to make any suggestions. I could look in a pub guide. Or, I could ask younger family members, but I suspect that their recommendations would be based more on the quality of the beer than of the food!

Are we thinking central London? Or would the outskirts suit more people better? What about Sevenoaks, where JohnFromAus will be based? There must be good country pubs around there.

Hello,
I think we would prefer to gtg in Kent.

I am sorry I am hopeless at this but can I ask for a couple of definite dates that we can all agree on, eg we can, at the moment, manage the week end dates of Sat or Sun 5th or 6th or Sat 12th.

I shall try to fit in with whatever date suits the majority.

As things stand at the moment we could do any of those dates, but I wonder whether Kent is going to be convenient for anyone coming from west London and beyond. Am I right in thinking that Pauline and Steve will be here at that time? They'll find it cumbersome coming from the Cotswolds. And might there be any other non London based attendees?

Is there anywhere in London you would recommend, Beebee?

I'll have a look and make some suggestions. My favourite website ( www.pubs.com) has a glitch with its search engine and the other site I tried didn't come up with anything immediately exciting but I'll look again later when I have a bit of time. I thought somewhere near Victoria might be good for you and Wendy but nothing came up. There is the George near London Bridge but I don't know if that's convenient or not.

I like that idea! BTW, John, it's free to drive in at the times beebee mentions (i.e. the Congestion Charge isn't operating), but finding a free parking space is another matter altogether...

Where's everyone coming from, and how?

The London Bridge area could be convenient for some trains from Kent (including Sevenoaks for example) - and it is on the Jubilee Line for people coming from West London.

Not that I'm the best expert on drinking or eating out: but I shall be with a group trying out some real ale pubs in the area in a couple of weeks. And there's a Tas (one of a chain of Turkish restaurants which I do know to be good value) nearby.

We are coming in from the Cotswolds, so could take a train into London - or drive out to somewhere in Kent (would probably overnight in the area).

I would prefer the weekend of the 12th - we won't be able to make it on the 5th or 6th - we arrive in Nailsworth on the 4th and will be getting settled.

I just realised that we will be leaving for Dublin on Sat 12th am, so will need to GTG on the 11th.

I shall try to be free on 11th (or any other date that is chosen).

The London Bridge area would be good for me, as would Sevenoaks or anywhere near the M25 south of London, but I should be able to get almost anywhere in the London area, if needed.
