Ginger will be in Manhattan on these dates, and wouldn't it be lovely, especially at this time of year, to have a Get Together!

I myself can take the train into town from Philly, and can meet you anywhere! The dates are totally open for me (off from work the whole week Happy)

---------------------
The place and time have been set:
Buffet luncheon at 12 noon:
Bukhara Grill
217 E 49th St (Between 2nd and 3rd Avenues)
Tel: (212) 888-2839
Website: http://bukharany.com/
Map: http://bukharany.com/page/o54a/Map.html

$13.95 per person for food, beverages extra

--------------------------
REQUEST: If possible, could we have this as a fragrance-free GTG? Steve and I are both slightly allergic to strong perfumes and aftershave. If people who use those, could not use them for this lunch - that would be most appreciated.

I am soooooo happy to be able to see my friends over the holidays. The only must do we have is to go to the Met to see the Americans in Paris exhibit, (and maybe a take in a show.) We will try our best to work around everyone's schedule.

I'm around that week. So count me in too! A while ago there was talk that some of our California friends might be coming in, so who knows! Party, party. Shannon

We're around, the only 'bad' date for us is the 30th. We have tickets for matinee that day.

OK - so the 30th is out, and the 26th is Ginger's travel day, which doesn't necessarily eliminate it as a choice, but maybe we can start narrowing down. Looking at the 27th, 28th, 29th - which is Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.

Any input?

Oh man! I got so jazzed by this thread, I found cheap flights, browsed for hotels, and then called Brad and asked if there was any way he could get that week off.

Frown Frown Frown Frown Frown

Holiday time in NYC sounded like so much fun, especially if I could stay warm and meet you guys!

Too much time taken in Sept. I must be patient.

Maybe in the spring...

I would vote for Wednesday or Thursday; Friday night would be out. I could do Friday lunch, but would prefer not to have to head back out to NJ in Friday traffic, whether driving or on a bus. (But if it were the only option, it's not such a big deal.)

And thanks, Terry for starting this thread.

OK - now let's look at Wed, 12/27 or Thurs 12/28.

Is this too early to make a commitment? I feel like I'm rushing things....

Maybe we should let it ride for a week or two (or three?), in case something comes up for someone???

Or take a preliminary vote? Forgive me, I'm new at this (and this is my first GTG) Blushing

Palma - that woulda been so awesome if you coulda made it. But spring works for me too! Thumbs Up

Usually a GTG plan lies around for awhile, with a few nudges to bring it to the top of the forum, every now and then. (You're doing fine, Terry.. The Queen)

Actually Terry I appreciate your promptness as it will help us in deciding which night to take in a show. So I'm ready when everyone else is.

Yes, set the date now so everyone can plan around it. We had our first moderators GTG in NYC this same December week in 2002!

Here is a PHOTO - the first five moderators: David, Pauline, Steve, Amy, and Liz. I think Maureen was a mod by the time of this GTG, but was in Florence for Christmas.

This was probably the first time I met David and Amy? I know I met Liz in Santa Fe soon after I started slowtrav (earlier than this).

Oh, Pauline - that picture is awesome!

Now I'm getting really excited (and it's still 3 months away!)

BTW, is there any way you and Steve could make it??? Joanna's Dancing Man

All right, let's take a vote:

-for either Wed, Dec. 27 or Thur, Dec 28

I'll go along with the majority. Maybe someone local or near NYC knows if there would be any compelling reasons to pick one day over the other? (annual convention, parade, restaurant week, heavy traffic, discounts - I'm pulling at straws, but you get the idea).

WEll, i'll throw this out, Wednesday is matinee day - more crowds, so I'd vote for Thursday. Smile Plus it gives Ginger one more option for show tickets.

Topping this GTG thread.

Shall we plan on Thursday, December 28th then?

What does everybody think??

Terry are you staying over? Driving or taking the train? I think you're coming the furthest (other than Ginger, but she has a room), so what works based on your train schedules (if that's how you're traveling)? Smile

Good point, Kim. I'll be arriving by train, and will not be staying over.

NJ Transit runs from Penn Station to Trenton all day and every half hour all night practically. Stu will pick me up at Trenton, so I'm not worried about driving home from a lonely train station late at night.

So, I guess, in other words, either lunch or dinner works for me!

Okay - good; I wasn't sure about Septa from Trenton but since Stu is picking you up...

Hey - if we don't drive in, we should try to coordinate on trains Big Grin.

Either lunch or dinner work fine for me too.

Well, personally, I am much more alert & charming at lunch. The older I get the less sparkling I am at night. It's embarassing because after 8 p.m. I can barely keep my head on my shoulders from yawning and if I have wine it's all over with. However, if we decide to have dinner I will be sure and get a nap. Smile

Yes, topping it, but maybe every couple of weeks. More often as we narrow down our lunch place, maybe. I am sure more NY metro types will sign on soon.

I haven't chimed in yet because I'm not sure if we'll be in town that week--we may be spending Christmas with my sister in Vermont--or we may go up at Thanksgiving instead. She's in France right now so I can't ask her! Also, if I'm not in Vermont, I'll probably be working that week so lunch could be difficult--depending what neighborhood its in I might be able to make it.

Bottom line, I may have to be a last minute attendee Big Grin but I'll surely try! Will let you know more as I know more...

Do you know what I just realized, Marian? My daughter has never had her picture taken by anything other than a digital camera. My God, I feel so old. I do plan on getting a couple of good shots together and posting them on the "Everything Else" board.

Well, just thought I'd top this, since it's been a little over a week since we've touched base on this GTG.

We've got plenty of room! Come one, come all!

Start thinking of where you'd like to eat. I'm totally unfamiliar with places to eat in NY, so I am definitely open to suggestion. I saw a restaurant called UVA, on the upper East side, recommended on a foodie show. Anybody ever hear of it?

Terry, Uva looks great, but I don't think they serve lunch. Pity because it looks very veggie friendly too.
