I need to submit numbers to our wonderful hostess Linda Candler for Brevard. Here is the final list I have of people going to GTG. If you can't make it, please let me know ASAP. If you would like to still come to the GTG but haven't posted yet, I will need to know ASAP as well.
Here is the list of Slow Traveler's who have confirmed that they will be both coming to GTG and having dinner together with us both nights. Those with the asterisk after name are also staying at music center.
Leslie, Brent & Riley * Kathy (kaydee), Charley, and Kelly * Earline & Cal * Palma & Brad Dana (T-Mac)& Brian * Jan (jgk) * Judy in Birmingham * Sandi (bugalu)& Bill Doug Phillips and Liz * Ring & Billy Gail & John Hecko * Ann (paceaj) & Doyle Joywriter & Thom Lynda Whaley * Linda & John Candler & friend Bill in Brevard
AND SAVING BEST FOR LAST: Pauline & Steve
Directions will be coming within the next day as will an informal itinerary of the meal GTG's and other relevant info. As I mentioned previously, there was not enough interest for there to be a group rate to Biltmore.
Due to a cancellation, there is now one room available at center. Let me know if you would like to stay there.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or need additional info.
Looking forward to seeing all of you next weekend!!
A quick note to everyone coming to Brevard - I am checking on some last minute details and will have additional information emailed out to everyone by end of weekend. Linda will also be posting directions.
Less than a week to go before we get to meet all of you! I'm posting directions to Brevard from two directions. If any of you are coming into Brevard another way and need further guidance, please let me know.
From the north, take Interstate 26 to Asheville Regional Airport, exit 40. Turn right onto Highway 280. It is a straight drive to Brevard (30 minutes). There will be brown DOT directional signs along the highway for Brevard Music Center. Closer into town, you will pass the usual fast food restaurants – McDonald’s, KFC, Wendy’s, Burger King - all on the right. Get in the right lane so you can bear right on Caldwell Street in front of the Food Lion shopping center. Turn right at 4th street, Probart Street. It will go through a residential area, then you will see BMC signs on the right. Take the second entrance, Music Camp Rd. Across from Waterford Place residential community, bear right through the stone pillars and immediately turn left around a traffic island. You will pass a lake on your right and the auditorium, and will then be in the auditorium parking lot. Come to the very end of the parking lot - pavement ends, just keep straight across gravel. You will see our driveway on your right. Large rock with our name on it at entrance.
Anyone driving from Atlanta will be coming into Brevard on Highway 64. At the intersection of Main and Broad Streets, turn left on Main Street and follow the brown DOT signs to Brevard Music Center. Continue to the Candlers’ as directed above.
I'll be checking with Leslie about how everyone will pick up keys for the rooms at the Alumni House.
John and I are really looking forward to next weekend! See you then! Linda

We can probably figure this out, but I thought I'd take advantage of your offer and ask anyway. We played with the idea of taking the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way to its nearest exit to Brevard, but then decided, in the interest of time, to do that on the way back to Boone.
So - alternatives: I tentatively thought of getting on 19E in Avery County and taking it to I-26 north of Asheville, then following your directions as above. But 19E is not the straighest route either. What we'll probably do, then, is take the Parkway (because we like to, and 321 is a mess) to a connecting road to either Marion or Morganton and then get on I-40 east of Asheville. If we do that, should be get on I-26S where it intersects with I-40 or continue on 40 west of Asheville to - ???
Directions will be coming within the next day as will an informal itinerary of the meal GTG's and other relevant info. As I mentioned previously, there was not enough interest for there to be a group rate to Biltmore.
Above quote from previous message that I wrote yesterday.
The informal itinerary with times and other relevant information is something I am working on in a Word Document and will email to all by late this evening. Needed to ask Linda another question to two before sending.
What is the weather going to be like for the weekend? Really I am asking so I can know what to pack...Jacket in the evening? Rainboots? This is my first GTG...are we casual, or do we 'dress to impress?'
Is anyone planning to spend saturday at Biltmore? Pauline you will love the Inn~ we have stayed there before. You will be treated like royalty opps, just like you are!
I think I will probably wear nice jeans Fri night and black pants to the restaurant. But, for all I know, maybe I have it backwards. This stuff always confuses me!
Ann, from I-40, take I-26E to the Asheville airport exit. Turn right and it's a straight shot to Brevard (30 minutes).
Sandi, the Weather Channel is predicting for Friday, sunny with a high of 65 and a low of 38; for Saturday, sunny with a high of 68 and a low of 41.
Jan, I agree with Leslie. Anything goes. I guess I will wear something a little dressier to Hobnob. John will wear a sweater rather than a jacket and tie.
Looking forward to seeing all of you on Friday!
Linda

Just a reminder, since you are talking about what to wear, that we are trying for a fragrance-free GTG because Steve and I are slightly allergic to perfumes, after shaves, etc. Thanks!!
Lynda Whaley is new to Slow Travel. She is going on The Luberon Experience with the Woods' and I am helping her arrange some of her logistics for France. She is very interested in the whole Slow Trav concept, the board, and is coming from TN. Very nice person, lots of fun on the phone and I am looking forward to meeting her in person.
Marta, that is wonderful. Last time at the Nashville GTG I tried to piggy-back on kaydee's and had a difficult time. However, with the help of Kathy and the mods, I made it. This sounds like a wonderful idea. I will be there with my batteries fully charged and looking for some unique "angles".
I'm so sorry for the last minute cancellation. We had to take Truffle on an emergency vet visit tonight. He's had an allergic reaction to something. He got a shot and we have to give him prednisone and watch him the next 48 hours. I'm really sorry we can't make it, Brian and I were both looking forward to it.
