It was our California friend Colleen who first called our attention to this elevated park planned for the site of some abandoned railroad tracks in lower Manhattan.
Well, now it's at least partly opened to the public (thanks David for the link) and I was thinking it would be a nice place for a small group to visit.
As I am sure it's going to be mobbed for the foreseeable future, I am really only interested in going daytime, on a weekday. (With, of course, lunch or dinner involved in there somehow.) I'm pretty flexible on time.
Anyone else?

I think Monday will work better for me, so I don't have to fight the traffic down to the beach on Friday night (instead, just the traffic home on Sunday night or early Monday morning).
Just saw this and would love to join you. As of right now, I'm scheduled to work that day, but there may be one person who may switch with me. I'll let you all know. Here's hoping....
Done (Kim, we know you are too busy recovering from Hawaii to check in here. )
I've made a reservation for seven of us at the Fig & Olive, Meatpacking location. Oddly enough, this location is no longer on Open Table, but no problem when I called.
I guess 20th street entrance is good. I'm planning to take the train to Penn Station too. Assuming we continue to have our gorgeous weather , I'll walk down.
We have decided to go into NYC on Sunday and stay overnight... we will be staying on E. 50th just off Park Ave... and am looking for some recommendations for dinner w/in walking distance of this location.
I know it is the 1st night of Restaurant Week... and am hoping one of you can suggest a few particpating restaurants. Nothing real fancy ... as we are not taking any dressy clothes.
Any help would be appreciated!
Karen

Karen, he said his recs are a few years out of date since he's been retired for a while but here's what he came up with:
Smith & Wolensky (steaks) Chin Chin (Chinese) Cafe de Artiste (which is actually a bit further - toward the west side if memory serves) Cite (which I see has lost its lease) Park Avenue Cafe
He said though, all of these are pricey (expense account days I guess ).
The only Upper East Side restaurant I've been to recently is Fishtail, the new David Burke restaurant on E. 62nd Street. We had brunch there for my SIL's birthday this past winter. It was quite good, but also quite expensive. Their website doesn't say whether or not they are participating in Restaurant Week.
Cafe des Artistes was one of my very favorite restaurants years back, but it's way on the other side of the park. Also very, very expensive, IMHO. For steaks, there is the original Palm on Second Avenue in the '40s. I haven't been there in decades, but it's a quintessential NY experience.
Thanks Kim and Marian... I will look into those you suggested...
Marian... I am not very familiar w/ NYC, but I don't think we will be Upper East Side near Central Park... we will be using "Hilton points" at the Waldorf Astoria on East 50th just off Park Ave. ...isn't that more Midtown?
If it is Midtown... do you have any other suggestions in that area?
Thanks, Karen

Looking forward to seeing you all Monday, 11 am, 20th street entrance. Weather forecast looks decent. Kelly, I'll trade phone #s with you on facebook, so we can figure out whether or not to wait for you at the park or meet you for lunch only.
Reporting back: Six of us enjoyed the lovely walk from 20th street down to Gansevoort. Such a nice day for it, and the plantings are so pretty. There are some lovely views; I think others may post photos.
We stopped off at the Chelsea Market on our walk to the restaurant. Then we had our nice lunch, joined by Kelly. Very nice place, very good food, I would go back.
