I have never been to Italy and this maybe a good time to go, if not sooner. So what time of the year (month) are you all planning to do this? I am tied to a school schedule ... Hmm, I better start saving very seriously... as airfares go up when the school year ends...
Oh Palma, how could you! I know Italy is your passion but we love the Desert GTG. Ok, we could do another month but please don't skip it. Beth in Vegas
There are a LOT of October babies on Slowtrav. My birthday is the 20th, Steve also celebrates his birthday on the 20th...anyone else? I know y'all are out there!

Well, I'm very tempted - not very far for me, after all. Italy and finally putting faces to names!
I hinted at a Venice 50th for myself last year, but my husband took me to San Francisco instead (which was great as I shared my birthday with a dear friend who lives there and we also had the chance to meet some lovely people at a San Francisco GTG!) So, I could celebrate again and also have a '50th' (the Queen of England gets an official and actual birthday on two separate dates , so I don't see why I can't.....)

I think it would be fun to share a large apartment in Venice! Finding the ideal one, well, we have time to do some research Big Grin
There's always my Marco's B & B, plus his 2 bedroom apartment. He's promised a 'Friend of Brenda Discount' for anyone who stays there. Wonder if that counts for me, also? Here's his listing on Veniceby's website. This is the website that he shares with Sonya, who owns Gli Angeli B & B in Venice.
Mmmmm, a villa, just outside of Lucca, perhaps? Villa La Chiusa near Lucca happens to appeal to me. Check out the rooms. There is a chef available to prepare the evening meal, if you wish. I love this place!
Hotel Villa Carlotta is located in Florence, at the foot of Piazza Michelangelo, a perfect location for a great place to stay! Pricey, but gorgeous!
Wherever we are, it will be a luscious time!
"The owner is a creative lady who is still maintaining the traditional manufacturing of old lucchesi silk fabrics for house decoration. Her studio is located in the lemon-house, an annex to the villa." ~ Villa La Chiusa website Brenda
I'm in! There are loads of apartments in Florence, in Venice and everywhere in between. Wherever it is that we land, it'll be a fantastic time.
Shelagh, I'll bet after the hard slogging that Palma and Brad just went through cookin' for the crew in Italy, they are more than ready for a break! Palma, come and relax, let others do the hard work, this time!
It just dawned on me that we are talking about 2010. I thought it was going to be next fall!
"To cook is not just to prepare food for someone or to cook for yourself; it is to express your sincerity. So when you cook you should express yourself in your activity in the kitchen. You should allow yourself plenty of time." ~ Shunryu Suzuki Brenda
My first name is Shelagh; and I was joking about Palma and Brad doing the cooking. I've been reading Palma's blog about all the cooking in Montisi; and it's exhausting!!! Brenda you are right: they need another holiday after all their afforts there!!!
Put me down as a yes - solo, as my other half will have to mind the remaining child at home (my eldest will be going off to college then and I am already suffering advance empty nest !)

Please mark me down as very interested, especially if we get a villa!
I don't suppose we could shift this event to Lake Como and see if George Clooney would like to drop by, pop out of a cake or a small Fiat for the birthday girls....really, whatever would work best for him.
I think I might be very interested. I haven't been to Italy in twenty years and maybe it is time to think about a return visit. It will depend on plane fares and the state of the dollar, but I would love to visit Italy with people who love it. So a tentative "please count me in"...will be a single traverler but would share an apartment or house. Beth
I am also very interested. I won't be able to commit for awhile, and I can't say if I would be coming solo or with Keith, who by that time will be my new husband! But this sounds like it could be fabulous.

Well I am very interested too but it's hard to commit to a date that far out. Since my husband is an every other year traveler to Italy with me, 2010 should be a solo year but that could change too. If I am solo, I would love to share accomadations. And any trip with Mindy, Palma, Brad, Brenda, Leslie, Jen and hubby and Kendall (STs I met/hung out with in Savannah) should be a blast!
Who knows where I'll be in Oct. 2010 but just fantasizing about a GTG in Italy gets me through those crappy everyday doldrums that life throws my way. I think it would be a blast to share a palazzo in Venice (perhaps my husband, ummmmm **cough cough**, I mean Mr. Clooney, would accept our ST invitation for a home cooked meal at our palazzo)
You mean my best guy friend, George? He stopped by this afternoon for a visit, so I took this photo as he was leaving. I'll let him know y'all are talking about him!
“After doing One Fine Day and playing a pediatrician on ER, I'll never have kids. I'm going to have a vasectomy.” ~ George, himself! Brenda
Shelagh, That's what comes of his staying up way late at my house! Kinda wears a fella out, I guess... You know, all that visiting and getting caught up on each other's lives and stuff like that. I'll ask him if he wants to come to this little getaway we're planning. I'll let you know what he says.
"I was in a bar and I said to a friend, 'You know, we've become those 40-year-old guys we used to look at and say, 'Isn't it sad?'" ~ George Clooney Brenda
alrighty then! Since October 2010 is *also* the month I turn, um, er, uh, 50, please count me in on this one. What a huge birthday treat this would be! Gary's been a poop about traveling lately but my guess is if it's Italy he'll come. If not, I am anyway. How about we just book the whole Residenzia Il Carmine in Florence?
