Thanks to dale and others on this board(David I think),I ordered this season's olive oil from La Case Gialle. It just arrived today and I am so excited! It is delicious and so reasonable- 10E/bottle without shipping costs. It arrived by Fed Ex in 3 days! I ordered 2 6 packs so that I could give some away as Christmas presents but now I'm thinking that they have to be really good friends to deserve such a gift ! Anyway, now that I have it I am looking for ideas on how to best use it (especially for appetizers for holiday occasions)from all of the great Italian cooks out there. The website for this olive oil from Perugia is www.lecasegialle.it. colleenk

UPS brought my six pack yesterday. Mauro must have mailed them all at once. I know that they picked mid October. I haven't opened a bottle yet, but will this weekend even though I still have a bottle and a half from the '01 crop.
This oil is so good it needs little more than grilled bruschetta rubbed with garlic, a generous dollop of oil and a little salt. That's enough for me. Oh, and don't forget the sagrantino.

quote:Pauline: I am opening bottles from last year that I hauled back in the fall. Oh well...
Oh dear Pauline. That's no good. Fresh is best with olio d'oliva. If it's a lo-fat thing, I urge you to investigate the lo-carb Aitkins way-of-eating, which allows a little more oil in your life. Then try that Casa Gialle oil with bread and dukkah! Divine.
I'm not on the aitkins diet, but Ruth's dropped her carbos a little bit and has started to enjoy eating and not worrtying about the occasional fatty foods = losing weight.

Not a low carb thing - I live on grains, beans and pasta and cook with lots of oil and salt. Just that we were in Italy in September and bought lots of oil, knowing the new oil would be out in a few months but still wanting to bring home oil on the trip. It still tastes pretty good!
I'm thinking of ordering some olive oil from Le Case Gialle, but can't figure out where/how to order it from the website? Do I just send them an email, and start the order process that way?

Our olive oil arrived yesterday, and we had quite a feast last night -- we put it on everything! I have never had recently-pressed oil before, and was surprised at how different it is. Mauro was very prompt in responding to e-mail, and sent the oil almost immediately. I'd highly recommend ordering from him. Elizabeth
I received an email from Mauro today stating that his olio oliva has won (over 3,000 other entrants) best in category: "olive oil produced by traditional method" and will receive his award from the minister of agriculture on 12 December in Rome.
BRAVO MAURO!

Mauro e-mailed that the cost was 10 euro/bottle and then stated that the cost for 6 bottles shipped Fed Ex was 78 euro. I haven't heard back from him with an answer to this question, so I'll ask it here: Is the 78 euro in addition to 60 euro for 6 bottles?
I have had items shipped to the US from Italy and know it can be costly. I just can't figure out how much money to send.

If you or your employer has a Fed Ex account, you can use it to have the oil shipped, and it will be cheaper that way. Then you pay Fed Ex and don't have to worry about sending the payment to Italy. The 78 Euros would be the oil and the shipping total. Elizabeth
Um, are you sure about that price? I sent 2 bottles of olive oil, 1 of balsamic and they cost $70 just for shipping through FexEx. I can't imagine that 6 bottles plus shipping would be $78.

Well, you may be right. We haven't been billed by FedEx yet. I just re-read Mauro's e-mail and it is a bit ambiguous. It may be 78 E just for the shipping. Really, now that I think about it, 78E all inclusive sounds like just too good a deal! I'll post here when I know more. Elizabeth
I think you guys are right - 18 euro for shipping seems a bargain and that is why I was questioning Mauro's e-mail. He is probably telling me the cost will be 60 euro for 6 bottles plus 78 euro for FedEx.
I shipped home a few pieces of crystal from Colle de Valle d'Elsa in late October and the shipping was $75.

Janice- It is 78E for shipping costs and 10E for each bottle. I used a business Fed Ex shiping # which Mauro used without a problem and sent him a bank check for $60 (the cost for 6 bottles)-or whatever the equivelent exchange rate was for Euros. It is well worth the money! colleenk

Janice: I just bought and had shipped six bottles from Stefano Conti in the Mercato Centrale in Florence on Judy's recommendation and the overnight shipping via DHL was 75 Euro. And by the way the oil and entire shopping experience ( email response and suggestions) was terrific.

Glad you loved Stefano's oil! It is made in Pergine Val d'arno and is incredible! For those of you that like the peppery unfiltered versions! One of my friends calls in the motor oil of the extra virgins.
FYI his uncle invented the Jacuzzi and sold it to Jazuzzi! He has bodybuilding gyms.. sort of the Jack LA LAne of Italy. Let's hear it for the anti aging properties of olive oil!
Thanks everyone. I ordered yesterday and Mauro is shipping Friday morning. Diva - Stefano Conti is so charming. We bought lots from him while in Florence in October.
