Well, I tried something new last night. Has anyone seen these Oreo Cakesters before? They are not bad....don't look at the fat content though. They are sort of what we call a "whoopie pie" here in Maine! Soft and chewy...chocolatey! Kiss

Whoopie Pies are found here in Ontario but only in the Mennonite areas. I was pleasantly pleased to find them in Maine. Our favourite - a Maple Syrup Whoopie Pie. . . . we brought 10 home with us.

A friend of mine makes her version of Oreo Cookies to serve in her tea house cafe...these are so-so-so good! They are large, soft and deliciously delicious. Joanna's Dancing Man

Oreo Cookies by Pat

2 packages chocolate cake mix, devil's food or double chocolate is best
1 1/2 cups vegetable shortening or margarine...butter not recommended
4 eggs
2 tablespoons milk

1 package cream cheese
2 2/3 cups icing sugar
3/4 cup butter

Cookies:
Cream together first four ingredients.
Roll into balls and bake at 350° for 9 minutes only.
Let cool in pan.

Frosting:
Mix cream cheese, icing sugar and butter.
Spread between cookies.

These can be kept in the fridge, but I love them room-temperature. After they are cooled, I loosely wrap each one individually in saran wrap or waxed paper. This keeps each cookie intact, as they are quite soft and don't tolerate being stacked in a cookie jar for very long. Of course, they never last long enough to worry about that!

They really are...I love these homemade oreos better than the store-bought ones, and I love those a LOT!
They are so soft, really, really chocolate-y and the cream cheese filling is to die for. I've been known to eat more than one and then complain about my tummyache...little piglet that I am!
