I was just thinking about how close we are finishing up with Dolce Italiano. It will be sad to say good-bye to our cookbook companion of these last few months! So a gelato finale would be a great idea. I'm up for any of them. So starting August 10 will be the "Personal Favorites" theme. Should we use the same order of names or mix it up? Is everyone still in for round two? -Krista

Oh, I just now saw Jerry's post, how did I miss that??? I would be so up for doing "The Perfect Scoop" for the rest of the summer. Then we could start the Personal Favorites on Sept 28th - the first Sunday after the beginning of fall. What does everyone think? -Krista

I'm good for whatever the group decides to do. Not turning the oven on to bake until things cool down a bit wouldn't be a bad thing . Of course, Cindy Ruth might appreciate the added heat up there in Alaska! I would like to try the Lavendar Honey ice Cream. The nice thing about his book is many recipes are non dairy - lots of sorbets or granitas. The granitas don't require an ice cream maker. I can testify that the champagne-cassis granita is AMAZING! We could always try some of the recipes out of the book Gail gave me in Savannah [i] White Trash Cooking[/i}: Ressurrection Cake, Potato Chocolate Cake, Irma Lee Stratton's Chocolate Dump Cake, Russian Communist Tea Cakes, Cheez Ice-Box Cookies, Vickie's Stickies, 'Likker' Puddin', Soda Cracker Pie, or Clara Jane's Fried Applies all sound tasty.

Jerry, I was about to join Marcia on the sidelines and enjoy your selections vicariously too, until I read that line. Hmmm, although I don't own an ice cream maker, I could definitely get interested in granitas, and might even be persuaded to get an ice cream maker and try a few sorbets. I've always wanted to try to make my own soy ice cream, too. If the group goes for it, count me in too.

I am IN! I haven't had the oven on for a month, and am pretty sure it's going to stay that way for the rest of the summer. Too freaking hot. Marta and I shared a delicious granita dessert the other night in San Francisco - I'd love to learn how to make it. I don't have an ice cream maker either ... but can borrow one from a friend. I vote for "The Perfect Scoop!" Colleen

You guys are starting to win me over to the dark side. Yes, I can do granitas, and then you know where that will lead, to an ice cream maker, and then I will eat it all, and then I will really look awful on my beach vacation, and are you all going be happy with that picture ? Which one of you wants that on your head. Maybe I will look at ice cream makers at Costco tomorrow - see, now I'm really going to the dark side. And then I will need a copy of the Perfec Scoop. Sigh, at least I will have something to write that "what I did on my summer vaction" essay when school starts. And then I have learn how to use an ice cream maker, and I still have to learn how to use my Bluetooth since I now can't use my cell phone in the car. I hope someone out there is laughing . . .

Oh, I'm so in! I've had The Perfect Scoop for a while, but no ice cream machine. This is the perfect excuse to get that new ice cream attachment for my Kitchen Aid mixer! I've been lusting after it for weeks! I figure you guys will choose enough chocolate flavors, that I can have an occasional break and "Brad'll Do It" can have a happy summer!

I'm in! Surely I can find these ingredients at the piggly wiggly. This will be perfect for the summer. I think an ice cream machine makes a perfect anniversary gift. (Santa brought me one last year.) So~ what is next week? A sweet apple omelet. Hmmm?

I might attempt a few weeks of this just to learn more about making ice cream. I experimented a little last summer with alcohol infused ice cream - this would be good practice! | |
