Either that or we move on to David Lebovitz's the Perfect Scoop for the remainder of the summer! Happy

I was just thinking about how close we are finishing up with Dolce Italiano. It will be sad to say good-bye to our cookbook companion of these last few months! Smile So a gelato finale would be a great idea. I'm up for any of them.

So starting August 10 will be the "Personal Favorites" theme. Should we use the same order of names or mix it up? Is everyone still in for round two?

Oh, I just now saw Jerry's post, how did I miss that??? I would be so up for doing "The Perfect Scoop" for the rest of the summer. Then we could start the Personal Favorites on Sept 28th - the first Sunday after the beginning of fall.

What does everyone think?

I don't think I will be making ice cream for the rest of the summer, especially since it would require purchasing a piece of equipment I have no space for in my kitchen Big Grin. If you all want to do this, it's fine with me, I will live vicariously until the fall.

Ice cream sounds heavenly for the rest of the summer!

Shall we go ahead and order "The Perfect Scoop"?

I think I'll need to excuse myself from "The Perfect Scoop" as well, which I'm sure will dismay my offspring. I'm away for much of August, and September will be crazed.

Have fun, and I look forward to hearing about it!

I'm good for whatever the group decides to do. Not turning the oven on to bake until things cool down a bit wouldn't be a bad thing Wink. Of course, Cindy Ruth might appreciate the added heat up there in Alaska!

I would like to try the Lavendar Honey ice Cream. The nice thing about his book is many recipes are non dairy - lots of sorbets or granitas. The granitas don't require an ice cream maker. I can testify that the champagne-cassis granita is AMAZING!

We could always try some of the recipes out of the book Gail gave me in Savannah [i] White Trash Cooking[/i}: Ressurrection Cake, Potato Chocolate Cake, Irma Lee Stratton's Chocolate Dump Cake, Russian Communist Tea Cakes, Cheez Ice-Box Cookies, Vickie's Stickies, 'Likker' Puddin', Soda Cracker Pie, or Clara Jane's Fried Applies all sound tasty. Happy

Jerry, I was about to join Marcia on the sidelines and enjoy your selections vicariously too, until I read that line. Hmmm, although I don't own an ice cream maker, I could definitely get interested in granitas, and might even be persuaded to get an ice cream maker and try a few sorbets. I've always wanted to try to make my own soy ice cream, too.

If the group goes for it, count me in too.

I am IN! I haven't had the oven on for a month, and am pretty sure it's going to stay that way for the rest of the summer. Too freaking hot. Uh-uh No!

Marta and I shared a delicious granita dessert the other night in San Francisco - I'd love to learn how to make it. I don't have an ice cream maker either ... but can borrow one from a friend.

I vote for "The Perfect Scoop!"

You guys are starting to win me over to the dark side. Yes, I can do granitas, and then you know where that will lead, to an ice cream maker, and then I will eat it all, and then I will really look awful on my beach vacation, and are you all going be happy with that picture Garlic Man? Which one of you wants that on your head.

Maybe I will look at ice cream makers at Costco tomorrow - see, now I'm really going to the dark side. And then I will need a copy of the Perfec Scoop. Sigh, at least I will have something to write that "what I did on my summer vaction" essay when school starts. And then I have learn how to use an ice cream maker, and I still have to learn how to use my Bluetooth since I now can't use my cell phone in the car. I hope someone out there is laughing . . .

Marcia -- I am not laughing, but I am definitely snickering! Dark side? Look at it rather as a chance to embrace something life affirming and new. Expand your horizons (and if you let David eat most of it you can do so without expanding).

After all - if you could master the art of the blog, mastering a newfangled ice cream maker should be a snap.

Happy granita-ing!

Well, exactly, Judy Big Grin. I think I will offer David the job of "freezer sous chef"; perhaps that ice cream machine will make it as a 33rd anniversary present this week. Maybe this is something we can do together....

As for expanding something other than horizons, I'm the ice-cream freak, not David, so I can just buy a whole bunch of Gladware and treat the neighbors. Good times.

I'm in!! Good idea. Now, though, I need to make sure mom has room for my ice cream maker down at the beach and I need to snag a copy of the book.

Oh, I'm so in!

I've had The Perfect Scoop for a while, but no ice cream machine. This is the perfect excuse to get that new ice cream attachment for my Kitchen Aid mixer! I've been lusting after it for weeks!

I figure you guys will choose enough chocolate flavors, that I can have an occasional break and "Brad'll Do It" can have a happy summer!

So did I, Nancy - I love pressing the send button at Amazon.

I have decided to embrace the concept of learning something new this summer - so today I am going to think about ice cream machines.

Surely I can find these ingredients at the piggly wiggly. This will be perfect for the summer.

I think an ice cream machine makes a perfect anniversary gift. (Santa brought me one last year.)

So~ what is next week? A sweet apple omelet. Hmmm?

OK, I just ordered my book from Amazon. Can't wait to check it out. Any recommendations for an inexpensive ice cream maker?

I am so hooked. After pressing click on Amazon, I went to Costco, where the Cuisinart 2 qt ice cream maker ($49.99) jumped into the cart.

Happy Anniverary to me, indeed. And since we are spending this 33rd anniversary at Dodger Stadium (picnic and 'ritas), I actually feel like this is not so over the top.

I might attempt a few weeks of this just to learn more about making ice cream. I experimented a little last summer with alcohol infused ice cream - this would be good practice!
