Hello. My name is Eve and I am an addict. Yes, it is true. I am addicted to Italian coffee.

I can't get the little cup that holds the grounds out of the base of my coffee maker, so that I can add water. It's stuck and I want to make coffee. Now.

What am I doing wrong? How do I keep it from getting stuck?

Is this a two part coffee maker where the top and bottom screw together? If so, take the half the the other part screws into and run it under hot water for a few minutes. Since heat causes things to expand, it should loosen the threads. Be sure to use a kithcne towel to grab hold.

If instead the problem is that the bottom half is already unscrewed but the little grounds holder won't release, either give it a sharp rap upside down in the sink or spoon out the grounds into the trash, then run cold water into the well until the grounds holder begins to float.

Oh my...a jammed coffee pot is a real dilemma. If the previous "rapping" suggestion doesn't work, try submerging just the bottom half of the pot in boiling water to warm it up, but just for a bit. The molecules in the metal will contract, while the cooler ones of the top portion won't. it may just give enough for you to get them moving again. A variation of this works with glasses that are stuck inside each other, but obviously not with boiling water.

Thanks everyone. A combination of rapping and cold water worked.
