I had an amazing dish yesterday, at a sunday afternoon pool party. The ingredients don't sound that compatible, but the tastes are scrumptious....

diced watermelon, crumbled feta cheese, black olives, basil and olive oil.......It was refreshing, the tastes complimented each other. I was quite surprised.

Anyone ever had or made this? Will someone try it and let me know if you like it??

One of my favorite restaurants here serves a similar salad in summer, with watermelon, fresh mozzerella, basil and olive oil. I LOVE it!

Okay, wow, that sounds really bizarre. But it's one of those, "so crazy it might work" things. I'd definitely try it if it were presented to me.

Thee Watermelon and "bulgarian cheese" ( = feta) combination is very popular in Israel. In fact, if you order watermelon at a cafe, you will most likely get it with feta unless the waiter is convinced you are American. It's a wonderful mixing of flavors.

That reminds me, one of my old college roommates used to put a bit of salt on her watermelon - it was interesting. I may have to try this for the tailgate tonight.

Try similar salads also with melon. And watermelon and prosciutto used to be pretty popular too, like melon and prosciutto, in the Italian countryside, especially up here in the north.

Yes a friend made that for a bbQ years ago and it was lovely...you know what though it was not with basil it was with mint for the fresh herb.

In Turkey, watermelon is served with feta cheese often. I really learned to love it there - it is the sweet salty thing, like melon and prociutto.

I fixed Cheryl's version of the Watermelon Salad last night, and it was a complete hit. Not a drop left over!

Thanks for starting this thread, Cheryl!

Nancy, me too! I made it for lunch today and I loved it.

Jerry, the grilled watermelon sounded interesting but just a little too much. It also called for Balsamic vinegar which didn't sound right to me. But let us know if you try it.

Cheryl, this is my new favorite salad. I wrote about it on my blog (and I gave you credit!) - there's a picture too. Thank you for posting about it.

We had watermelon after dinner tonight and I decided to try some very thick fig balsamic as a drizzle. It was wonderful.

That recipe looks good Jerry.

Balsamic vinegar seems incongruous with fruit, but it's really a very nice coupling. Try splashing a little balsamic on strawberries for a real treat.

Bought a whole watermelon yesterday so thought I'd try Cheryl's salad. Didn't have black olives so I used some green (martini) olives from the fridge. I loved the flavors, Chris dubbed it "interesting." Roll Eyes I'd still make it again though.

On yesterday's new Food network show, "Delicioso" is part of the title, she made a salad with papaya and feta.

I'd have to go to their website to look up the exact recipe, since I got distracted by something and missed the preparation Roll Eyes. But since I really really dislike watermelon I thought it looked very interesting.
