It's hot here and I have been making only salads and gazpacho for weeks - anything to beat the heat. Last weekend Giada DeLaurentis of Everyday Italian prepared an Italian Lemonade that looked fantastic and refreshing. She said it was a recipe from a friend of her mom's who owned a house in Sicily and it features a simple syrup infused with basil. The recipe is on the Food Network website. Italian Lemonade

I am making it tonight.

I just watched her make it and it does look good. She also made a cous-cous salad using Israeli cous-cous - now I just have to remember to go to the Food Network and turn on my
printer.

Giada's recipe calls for 1 bunch of basil. Since I've grown my own for years, I'm not sure how much that is. Bags Packed, how much did you use?

Nancy, had the same question as I was snipping basil. I just gathered enough to hold in my hand. Destemmed I would guess and say I had 1 cup of leaves, maybe more. My piccolo basil needed harvesting so that it was I used.

I steeped the leaves in the syrup last night and just finished putting it all together, using San Pelligrino water. Had a little taste and it is really good. The basil taste is there but subtle.

Two green thumbs up!
