Okay, this week was my choice for the Malted Milk Ice Cream. When I chose this, I never thought I would have trouble finding Malt Powder. I know Carnation used to make it, and it was in a tall skinny glass jar next to the hot chocolate mixes. Our Safeway and Fred Meyers no longer carry it. I'm sure Walmart doesn't, and that only leaves one small store that carries some specialty items I haven't checked with yet, and my other option is to go into an ice cream shop and beg them to sell me 3/4 cup. I heard Jerry say he had trouble finding it, is anyone else?

I did buy Ovaltine Malted Milk(not the chocolate flavor) in case I couldn't find it, but after opening it and tasting, it's awful-I don't want to use it.

OMG! I have been looking for that as well. It is my husbands favorite! Your right it used to be in Safeway next to the Ovaltine but no more.

My husband just likes it in hot milk...I adore the flavor of malt.

I think I will look on line...

Okay, I just found the Carnation Malted Milk. It's called that, but when I opened it and tasted, it tastes like malted powder, not that icky Ovaltine. So I'm going to be making my ice cream tonight.

I'm working 14 hours a day for the next three days. I don't think I'll have time to do the icecream until next week.
I'll be a bit late, I'm afraid. Still need to get to Global Foods for the malt powder.

Eventually is the key word here. Next week I will have to work on making both chocolate and malted milk ice creams. Perhaps I will just serve them together Dorky Traveler.

Colleen-I haven't churned my ice cream yet, but if you like malt flavor, you will love this ice cream. My husband tasted it, and told me we would not be giving any of this away!

Thanks for the preview Cindy Ruth -- sounds yummy!

I'm sorry that I will be late with this as well, but my malted milk powder and Whoppers (unless my nhusband eats them) will be waiting for me when I return.

I decided to post my photo a day early, as I'm not sure if I'll be home tomorrow. If you like malts, you will love this ice cream. Even though there is no chocolate in the mixture(just in the coating of the malt balls), it tastes like a chocolate malt. I know that a lot of you are at Palma's and won't be making it until next week, but I would suggest you not skip this one-it's really good.

I found it at a small grocery store in Anchorage-it's not a chain. It actually specializes in asian items, but also has a good selection of specialty things. What about trying a health food store? Or as I mentioned earlier, if I couldn't find it anywhere I was going to go to an ice cream shop and see if I could buy some from them. I know that it's around somewhere - people still make malts!

Can you believe it?
Palma, Jerry, and I didn't post an icecream this week. It's not that we weren't in the kitchen!
I'll postpone my malted milk until I can get to the Piggly Wiggly!

That is the malted milk powder I found as well. It was in a chain grocery store in Niagara Falls, NY. It was in the powder milk, evaporated milk section.

As Sandi pointed out, there is no malted milk ice cream coming from this direction this week (even though I have the malted milk powder Razz). Things have been far too crazy here at Casa Palmabella for ice cream making (AKA Palma would have shot us had we suggested it yesterday!)

I'm glad you all were having a wonderfula time at Casa Palmabella instead of being at home making Malted Milk Ice Cream (like poor me). Frown

Cindy, all the Slow Scoopers who were at the Desert GTG are going to make malted ice cream. It sounds and looks great, so we will still be posting our, a little late.

To all who are looking for the Carnation Malted Milk powder-I just saw it at our Walmart! They are turning our Walmart into a SuperCenter, and have put in quite a bit of the groceries. I decided to browse the isles and get an idea of what they carry, and just had to check that out(my husband suggested I look there, and I told him no way would they have it. I was wrong!)

Cindy I got mine at Walmart this morning! Great minds.
My icecream is in the freezer now.
It was such effort to resist just spooning it all into dishes and eating it soft-serve right out of the icecream freezer.
Dan has already decreed that this batch WILL NOT go to work with me. Roll Eyes

For its sheer ability to take me back to my childhood, this is my number one favorite of the last twelve weeks. Thank you, thank you Cindy for choosing it.
