Yesterday a friend gave me some watermelon radishes that she had picked up at the San Francisco farmer's market. I had never seen these gorgeous things before. They are sort of a white/light green on the outside, slightly bigger than the usual radish, and when you cut into them they are a brilliant watermelon color - hence the name. I would love to be able to find these locally, but if I can't, I wonder if they are easy to grow. Has anyone tried growing them? I found this source for seeds:

Those of you who are familiar with them, do you use them just as would regular radishes or are they any other special things that you do with them?

Never seen one before! but I suppose that they act exactly like normal plain radishes! you're right: they're gorgeous to see!

Those are just adorable. Do they have the same taste as a regular radish?
I have taken regular old radishes and made the ever popular "radish rose" out of them and soaked them in beet juice to get the color. These little babies would eliminate that step.

A few years ago in Florence I bought what I thought were green tomatoes....planing to make fried green tomatoes. When I sliced them they were red inside. Fully ripe. I ended up just slicing a plate full of those with red and orange ones too and making a caprese out of them. I looked all over for some of those seeds but couldnt find any. In hind sight I should have just salvaged some from one of the tomatoes.

Yes, they tasted pretty much like regular radishes - maybe a tiny bit spicier. I just nibbled on a couple and also threw them into a salad. I wish they would become more popular so I could find them at our farmer's market.

I've never seen green skinned red interior tomatoes - that would be something I would love. I'll keep an eye out.
