This weekend we planted four tomato plants and four more basil plants...all in the unused garden of our wonderful neighbor! This basil, combined with what I have in pots in our back yard should be enough to make pesto later this summer. I remember Casa dei Sogni saying that pine nuts were expensive in Italy. Is there a better time to buy them, or a better place, such as the Mercato in Florence?

You can walk around like the Italians do and gather your own under the pine trees!!!

I don't think you use enough to worry about it!
they aren't that expensive..
It is cheaper to buy in bulk than in the little packages..

Thanks Judy! When is the best time to gather them? and also, where do you buy them in bulk? All I have seen so far are little tiny packages at the Coop.

Watch under those Montery pine trees!!!
I think fall is when the cones open and the fall!

As for bulk, often your neighborhood shops will have them in a glass jar behind the counter!

I'll start asking around in the shops, and maybe by fall I'll know where to look in the woods! Thanks Judy! Wink
