On Saturday night, Rex and I went out to dinner with friends Gene and Janette to celebrate my 45th and Gene's 62nd birthdays. They have never been to Courtright's which is one of our favorite special occasion restaurants. Rex and I love the chef's tasting menu paired with the wines chosen by the sommelier. It has to ordered by the entire table and is 6 courses. Rex and I had been there in June for our anniversary and this meal was just as spectacular as that one. We started with kir royales all around.
1st course: Scallop and Lobster "Wellington" with black radish shavings and hibiscus syrup.
Wine: Laurent Perrier Champagne
2nd course: Warm Porcini Soup with porcini chips, shaved pecorino, and drizzled with Evoo.
Wine: Terre di Tufi 2003 (a blend of Vernaccia di San Gimignano, semillon, and chardonnay from Tuscany)
3rd course: Sauternes Poached Foie Gras with Red Grapes (very sweet and interesting take on foie gras)
Wine: Clos des Roques Lupiac (sweet wine very similar to a sauternes)
4th course: Grilled 2bone rack of New Zealand Lamb with Short Rib Ragout and Soft Polenta (fabulous, fabulous dish)
Wine: Vinaguarena "Barrica" 2001 from Toro, Spain (this is a temperanillo which is only aged for about 6 months in French and American oak - outstanding wine)
5th course: Point Reyes Blue Cheese with Date Confit and Homemade Sesame Crackers.
Wine: Grahams 20 Year Tawny Port - Portugal
6th Course: Chocolate Beignets and Cafe au Lait Mousse.
Wine: Saracco Moscato D'Asti - Piedmont, Italy
Rex and I chose another glass of the temperanillo to have with coffee, Janette had more moscato, and Gene had B&B.
Hope any foodies and/or wine fans enjoy this post.
