I made my Almond Gelato last week. It has a wonderful almondy taste... but then I toasted $5 worth of almonds! I couldn't just throw them out, so I diced up some to put in the ice cream. It was good- very almondy.
If I make it again, I will double the recipe (except for the almonds). 2 cups of gelato doesn't go far.

I made mine earlier this week. I agree-great almond flavor. Because it doesn't have any egg yolks, it also isn't as rich as most ice creams would be. I had leftover almond praline paste from my fancy cake I made last week, so I mixed that in with the ice cream, which gave it even more of a rich almond flavor. Yum!
I made my Toasted Almond Gelato last week too so I could try out the new ice cream maker.
We liked it a lot - very tasty and good almond flavor. Mine didn't freeze really solidly, even after a day or so (it melted really fast after I put it in the bowls). Maybe my freezer is too full.
The amount of the recipe (2 cups?) was perfect for the 1.5 qt ice cream maker that I got. It was plenty for Bill and I to each have two small servings. The small amount is probably a good thing in our house - we can't gorge ourselves on it!
I made my mixture last night and refrigerated it over night. This morning I put it in the icecream maker, it was SOOOO easy. (thanks again to Marcia for the machine recomendation!) The trick was to transfer it to a freezer bowl as fast as possible to keep it from liquifying again. It is in the freezer now. I hope it hardens enough for me to get it to the store tomorrow morning. I'll post a photo later today. I'm making almond biscotti to serve it with.

All of your photos look so delectable. I still haven't gotten my ice cream machine (yet) so I'll either be late with this one, or skip it all together and just enjoy all of yours.
Wow, this was delicious. I ended up writing more about the whole Sunday Slow Bakers experience on my blog this week, but I really could have gone on and on about how simple and delicious this gelato was.
My biggest mistake: serving it in a white bowl. Not a very pretty photo. Must start thinking about ice cream dishes for next week...
Krista, I decided to serve mine in a rice bowl to go with the Chinese almond cookie theme. I didn't think about the fact that the blue design was only on the outside of the bowl. Also not the best decision. At least I have a whole week now to figure out how to showcase Jerry's selection.

I'm with Jerry, ran out of time last week before we left, so this morning I am living vicariously through your photos - yummy hardly begins to describe the pictures. Now if I can only get through laundry and post-vacationitis, I may be able to try our first official SSS week - if not, there's next week.
