I am so excited! My grocery store produce section has the scales and pictures for pricing your own fruits and veggies....just like at the grocery stores in Italy. April Fool I know it seems silly, but this made me so happy. I knew exactly what to do and even helped a confused customer. I wanted to say "you've never been grocery shopping in Italy, right" ?
Now all they need to do is provide plastic gloves!!

Read all about grocery shopping in Italy HERE

It really is the simplest things in life that make us the happiest isn't it? Now, every time you buy produce, you will have a quick reminder if Italy. Smile If only the taste can do the same.

Pokey- Which grocery? My sister is in Norwell. She will be just as thrilled, and you are right about the simple things. Razz
She is off to Italy in just a few days...it will be good practice. (Not that she will be weighing much fruit)

Bugalu, (cute name by the way) Wink Grin
The grocery chain is Stop and Shop. There are 2 stores near me but only one has the weighing stations. Maybe they are testing it in different markets to see how well they are received. I should find the produce manager and give him a hug. Pig

If we could just find artichokes for less than $1 each, and a good cappicino, and real mozzerella~ not the fake-o kraft in a bag, and bubbly red wine, lemoncello, and gelato...
Wonder what air fare is this month $?$

We've been doing that in our grocery store, Wegman's, for as long as I can remember! Link

This supermarket chain is about the best I've ever come across. Now in five states, they originated here in Rochester, NY. The founder, Bob Wegman just died at 87.

Eccomi... you're right as when I lived in the Rochester area, Wegman's always had produce and scales to weigh. We have it here in Florida at Publix too but if I really want the experience I go to Whole Foods or Fresh Market but my favorite... our Farmer's Market in Winter Park on Saturday morning's! I walk to mercado as it is about a mile from the house, shop and walk back. To make it even better, they are opening (on the way no less) and Italian Supermarket with produce, meats and a deli!!! I can then on Saturday's TRULY go to market!!

When I ran into Danny Wegman last summer I said I had two words for him:
Bonita Springs!

Our development borders on a heavily Mexican neighborhood and the Publix stocks products for the area. I have to travel to a Publix better for me but I know where i can always find fresh cilantro and chit chat with adorable Mexican children.

People near us in Florida are all excited about the Fresh Market. What is so exciting about a place that charges 2.99 for a grapefruit...in Florida, no less? The great thing about Wegman's is that you can get very sophisticated ingredients at a not break your budget price. Yes, they are more expensive than the average supermarket, but not as bad as specialty shops like the Fresh Market...and... you can weigh your own produce, just like Italy!

RIP Bob Wegman. If only all corporate icons were modeled after him...

"Weigh your own produce" meaning you put it on a scale and then hit the produce number and it prints out the price tag + bar code? Haven't yet seen that here in Cali >_<
