Sadly, they changed our Tuscan Olive Oil to a new one from Sicily. Same bottle; same look; lower price $9.69 versus $11.99 for the Tuscan.

We bought a bottle and did a blind taste test with our resident expert: Judith.

We paired the Tuscan Oil to the Sicilian and the Tuscan won; easily!!!

It's bolder and has a better, nuttier flavor. Thumbs Up The Sicilian is a little flat in taste and is also lighter in color. Thumbs Down

Our opinion... it's a great cooking oil. Write to Costco and tell them to bring back the Tuscan!!

I haven't been able to find the Tuscan Olive Oil at several Costco's recently and I'm down to my last bottle. Could the reason be that it's not available this time of the year and will pop back up in the fall after the harvest. Confused

Any suggetions for another oil maybe from Trader Joe's?

Carole,

I think all us "Foodies" found out about how good it is and we used up all the oil for this season already. I think that is why they brought in the Sicilian oil to get us to buy that one. Same bottle and look of the bottle so for the uneducated like we are Big Grin they'll buy the Sicilian oil.

It's not bad but it's a much milder oil, lighter in color also about $3 less a bottle.

My suggestion, buy the Sicilian for cooking and hoard the Tuscan for salads and dipping. The new crop should show up in the stores very late December or January for sure!!

Thanks for letting us know. I probably would have bought it, and not even noticed until I went to taste it.

Here (Tallahassee) we still have the Toscana at Costco. In fact, I went there today to get a bottle. Guess I should have gotten 2.

When we got home we tasted it against the Colavita and both really preferred the Kirkland Toscana!

I got a bottle the other day too, Jan. Here in St. Louis.
I still have a little of my TJs left, which I think is very good.
When I open the Cosco Tuscan, if I find the taste is freezer worthy, I think I'll restock my little 4oz freezer containers. (shhh...don't tell those who think it is impossible to freeze olive oil Wink)

We just got a bottle of Sicilian Val di Mazara oil today at Costco in Chicago (we are visiting our son Seth) and we tasted it at lunch. While I would agree that the Tuscan oil is better, we all thought that the Sicilian oil was quite good and will have no problem using it until something better comes along.

I find great Tuscan oils at TJMax and HomeGoods....beautiful bottles and wonderful oils. In fact,I do a lot of Italian food shopping at both stores...all kinds of great cookies, biscotti, condiments, etc. for prices you can't beat anywhere.

I got one bottle of oil at a TJMaxx one time. It was $9 so I thought I'd risk it. It was so rancid I had to toss the entire bottle.
Checking for dates is REALLY important at stores like TJMaxx and Home Goods.

You're correct about checking the dates...even for stuff at the grocery & drug stores!
