Has anyone heard of an olive oil near the coast called Oleificio Giomi Adriano? Not sure if that is the correct spelling? It has been highly recommended to us.

Diva,
Isn't it a bit early for that prediction? I thought the olive harvest didn't even begin until next month or October?

Have all the olives shriveled up on the trees? Frown

To be quite honest Colleen, there are no olives to shrivel. The olive trees in front of my house are empty. No rain means no fruits Frown

NO OLIVES!!!!
So I can immagine that there will be a lot of commercial oils from Turkey, Greece and Morocco being bottled in Italy!!!
I don't think I have seen one tree with nice olives, those that have them are tiny!

Cristina, do you remember why we don't have them, I know that olives are self pollinating and that they need a nice wind to pollinate and if there isn't, that is why there are no olives.. I think there was something with the weather that caused this..
then the lack of water would be for the size??

No olives! Eek Oh, dear. Now I understand how they can make an announcment about the 2003 harvest already. I'm sorry for all the olive oil producers and the small family farms. Frown

Had to ask a grower as I am clueless to lots of this type of stuff even though I have a grove out my front door (not mine of course). Anyway, the problem stems from the heat in May. The sun burned the flowers which meant that the olives never grew and the lack of water caused low growth for the ones that did not get burned. It really is sad. I watched the people here in my little village the other day when it rained. Everyone was outside just praying that it did not hail as the wine production is already down for this year and most of the wine people also grow olives so if they do not have one they NEED the other.

Never heard of or seen it. I did a web search (the compnay is GIOMI ADRIANO S.N.C.) but found nothing (just their address and name). Who recommended it and for what reason? I think that if it was a highly rated one that it would be written about somewhere, especially if they are a small company. To be quite honest, I have never even heard about the quality of Olive oil from Livorno (where the company is)but that isn't saying much as I don't keep up on those things any longer.
