My "other" daughter is in Los Angeles this week and she called her Dad to see if he could find a saimin restaurant in Los Angeles for her to try like Hamura's in Lihue.
He tried googling and was just totally flummoxed, so I stepped in to the rescue. I have spent at least 45 minutes and haven't come up with anything .
Thus far I've figured out Saimin is considered the "comfort food" of Hawaii, right?
I'd check This link to see if you can find anything. Click on the listings with reviews and you'll get a better idea of what we have to offer in this neck of the woods. I noticed one in Gardena specifically mentioned Saimin.
Thanks to both of you. I will pass this on to her and she can take it from there.
Yes, Kathy, saimin would be considered Hawaiian comfort food. The perfect bowl of saimin is the saimin in a bowl of dashi broth with some vegetables and topped with shrimp tempura. I suppose it would be like our chicken soup for the soul.
I have driven past the one on Sepulveda a number of times. I was always surprised to see a Hawaiian restaurant in LA, but it totally makes sense with all the Hawaiian natives that live in LA. Anyway, this place looks like it is a step above a fast food restaurant but not much. Very similar to the plate lunch places on Oahu.
