I have noticed that where I live in Idaho the price of olive oil has gone up 100%-200% in the past year . Eek Has anyone else noticed that the price of olive oil has gone up? Since the olive oil I buy is exported from Italy, I'm wondering if the price has gone up in Italy also or is it the importers who are raising the price.

Hola.

This is very interesting to us.

Can you say what the price you paid for last year was (per litre of cold pressed extra virgin olive oil?)

Is organic (zero chemicals used)extra virgin olive oil availalble where you are?

Frosts at the wrong time last year damaged crops after a drought so yes prices went up a little but you are saying 200 percent?

Speaking as one who has shipped olive oil (privately) since about 2000; yes, I'd say the price for shipping has gone wayyyy up in the last 2 years. One reason is the simple cost of shipping and the other is because of the bioterrism act (2003, I think) every liquid shipment requires additional paperwork additional €€€ per shipment. I have not seen the prices of the product go up, but there are those frantoio who charge more for reasons I haven't a clue! My neighborhood producer is charging the same for 3 years now.

Last year I paid around $8-$10. This year it's $15-$21. Organic is available and running about the same price.

Our supplier gets shipments from a small family-owned press and we get this every December right after the first crush. I can not bear to think of what the 2006 prices will be like with the US$ dropping versus the Euro over the past year.

I order mine every year from Mauro Colonna(La Case Gialle)
He very apologetically raised his prices by only one euro this last fall after three years of no increases.

I paid 126 euro for 6- 750ml bottles and one 5 ltr tin of unfiltered. Plus I paid 96 euro for shipping.

A fantastic value, no matter how you look at it.
