As promised, here is my review of the Strawberry Sformato I made for yesterday's picnic.

First off I have to say that I made one change to the recipe (you knew I would, didn't you?!?) Instead of using 3 egg yolks and one whole egg I used 1 egg yolk and 2 whole eggs.

It turned out differently than I thought it would. I thought it would be more like a pudding, and it sort of was, at least in texture, but all the strawberries rose to the top.

Everyone liked it...some even had seconds. It was light and very refreshing. I thought my sauce was too runny...I would have preferred a thicker sauce, but of course you can reduce it on the stove....but that would take all the alcohol away Frown

The interesting thing was that none of the Italians had ever heard of it! I thought sformatos were a common way to use up leftovers, esp veggies, but maybe not...or maybe not around here.

I don't think I'll make this again...personally I'd prefer to crush some berries with a little sugar, make some fluffy biscuits and have strawberry shortcake! Much simpler!

Look great though...I'll give it a try. Barb the strawberries have been incredible here in Maine this year. They are just about to start harvesting Maine Blueberries this week.
