We are going to be away on "my" weekend, so either I will do it early, or if someone wants to switch, also cool. But, until my book comes in the mail, I will have to reserve selecting a "flavor".

A friend suggested an ice-cream stand if I really am worried about too much ice cream in the house, made me laugh.

So, does this mean we have a week off on Sunday, August 3rd?

Inquiring minds . . .

I guess so, Nancy. I picked up the August 10 date from Krista's post, but didn't refer back to the SSB schedule to confirm. If it's not right, I can change it. I'll 'feature' this thread once the Slow Bakers are done.

Marcia, your post made me laugh! After reading everyone's Pig comments, I started to wonder, "What *am* I going to do with all this ice cream??" IceCream IceCream IceCream IceCream

I have new neighbors; might be time to welcome them to the neighborhood. Wink

Well, actually, I referred to August 10th because Sandi suggested doing a gelato recipe from Dolce Italiano before we leave it, i.e. on August 3rd. It could be a good transition to the Perfect Scoop. What do you think?

I like it. Thumbs Up

David Lebovitz writes in his book about the multiple times he tested all the recipes (and you may have seen how small his Paris ktchen is in the video). He used to bring pints of ice cream to neighbours and the market. I imagine that he was quite popular!

Colleen-Can you add me to the list? I might have posted that I wanted to join after you wrote this list. Doesn't matter where in the order you place me. Thanks!

Since I'm not a SSB, nor do I have an ice cream maker, I'm somewhat at a disadvantage here, BUT I really, REALLY love ice cream, gelato, sherbets and sorbets, so that has to count for something I guess. Anyway, Kyle Phillips recently posted a recipe for Crunchy Ice Cream Pie, complete with a chocolate chip cookie shell and pralined almonds. If anyone finds the recipe as tempting as I do and can actually make it, I'd love to know the results!

I am thinking I want to be a little different in two ways...

I am going to add some kind of liquor to every recipe. Unless there or is already liquor in it, or it just won't work. Is that cool with ya'all?

Instead of posting a picture on my blog, I am going to post comments from the tasters on my blog.

I ordered my book yesterday. I hope it arrives soon!

Thanks Terry, I see Colleen has made the change.
I'm now comfortably in September somewhere. And I too, have to wait for the book.

Last night I had dinner with friends and got several offers to be "tasters", so I may not have to worry about too much ice cream in the freezer. Ice cream became the topic of conversation and by the end of dinner, we had all decided that for our next gathering, we would skip dinner and go out for hot fudge sundaes instead. The power of the word . . .

Shannon, your approach sounds great. I bet Deborah will want in on this and she will probably have some interesting liqueurs to add to hers as well. Also, I like the idea of comments from the tasters - I may have to copy that idea.

I have to confess that I just ordered the book the other day. I've been following David's blog for quite a while, it's one of my favorites, but I had just not gotten around to ordering his book. I'm glad this gave me just the reason to do it.

-Krista

p.s. here's a good page of ice cream making tips from David's blog.

Colleen,

Can you please add me to the list as well? I've had the book and have read the recipes for a few months now, so this will be perfect motivation for me to actually make some of them!

How exciting - both my books, The Perfect Scoop and Artisan Bread, arrived today!

Next purchase - an ice cream maker....

Oops - almost forgot - my selection: Pina Colada Sherbet, page 138. I have a real weakness for pina colada. Cool

My book just came today, so I am going to read through it tonight and make a choice - so excited.

Self-editing to add, I couldn't wait and opened it. Since I believe I am in early September and we can still get good stone fruit, I am going to choose Peach Ice Cream (p. 89); it is the flavor that acually says summer to me and should be equally wonderful in late summer. Since I need to try out this machine, I just may do some this week.

So many choices, but no one will be surprised at "roquefort-honey ice cream" for me.

Shannon, get some Calvados!

My book arrived today too! Yeah!

We just went to a local lavender festival, and the lavender ice cream was great. So, that is what I am going to choose - Lavender-Honey Ice Cream - Page 64.

I'm glad that Palma chose the Roquefort one because that was my second choice!

This is going to be fun - and cool!

Oh, decisions, decisions. I got the book last night and went through it cover to cover. It was a tough decision but I think I will go with Tiramisu. It sounds really delicious.
