Marcia, that looks great. I can't wait to start - but, of course, I have to get my ice cream maker first. That's on Saturday's agenda.

I really love using old family dishes and keepsakes for serving - it makes the things we eat so much more special.

Er, well, I thought the recipe for the Salted Butter Caramel Ice Cream was in the book. Blushing

Instead, it's one of the recipes posted on his website here. (I guess that's what I get for trying to rely on my memory Roll Eyes)

So, I'll be happy to pick another recipe. That is, one which actually appears in the book. Wink

You're killin' me here. Please STAY with the salted butter caramel. Or I shall have to do it all by myself. Eek

If it's okay with everyone ...

It just occurred to me that we could even do an Salted Butter Caramel Ice Cream and Salted Caramel Cheesecake pairing. Wink Grin Pig

Sharon, if you just make sure you point us all in the right place for the recipe, I think we'll be fine.

Meanwhile you all are killing me here, so I should go make dinner.

Palma-I am laughing away at your comment. As soon as I read Krista's comment about the bowls, I thought-Oh no, I don't think I have enough cute bowls. Then I scrolled down and saw that you thought the same thing. Shopping time....

I'm still waiting for my copy of the book to arrive, but I promise to pick a recipe as soon as it does!
Whichever recipe I do choose, I've decided I'm going to use my quatro pizzelle maker to make ice cream sandwiches.
That means that for at least one week, I won't have to come up with bowls. Wink

OK, my book FINALLY got here.

I HAVE to pick the Toasted Coconut Ice Cream from page 96.

I'll serve it over sweet sticky rice in an attempt to duplicate my all time favorite dessert from Lotus of Siam in Vegas.

Sharon, I read David's recipe for Salted Butter Caramel Ice Cream too and I thought it sounded like just the most amazing thing.

So, please don't pick another recipe, let us all make this one!

So, now it looks like Sandi is the only one who hasn't chosen a recipe.

No pressure, Sandi!

Ok, Salted Butter Caramel Ice Cream it is. Smile (I'll post the link again closer to the date.)

Deborah, I love your idea of pizzelle ice cream sandwiches. Forget bowls, I need to get a pizzelle maker! Wink

Chris, I had no trouble deciding which chocolate I will make on your week. My second choice was the Aztec "Hot" Chocolate Ice Cream. I had a very hard time turning it down in favor of the Coconut. Now I don't have to!!!

As for me, I'm pretty excited about the Toasted Coconut Ice Cream, that sounds heavenly.

Not sure which chocolate to make, they all sound good. I bet Palma will make the white chocolate!

Sharon, I'm thinking that there are about 4 selections in our list that would lend themselves to the ice cream sandwich.
Cindy's Malted Milk with chocolate pizzelle.
Marcia's Peach with almond pizzelle
Chris's Aztec "Hot" Chocolate with hazelnut pizzelle.
And Nancy's Lavender Honey with traditional fennel pizzelle would be divine!

Krista, I'm glad you like the Coconut choice. I hope some of the group decide to try serving it over warm sweet sticky rice.

Krista, I was thinking of white chocolate-stracciatella. That might work for me!

I will not buy a pizzelle maker, I will not buy a pizzelle maker, I will not buy a pizzelle maker...If I say it enough, will I convince myself? I don't have room for another kitchen appliance, but Deborah, your 4 selections sound so good!

Cindy Happy Happy Happy! I am with you, stay strong, but isn't this how I got into the ice cream game? Seriously, Deborah is going to have to make pizzelles for me, vicariously.

We don't have to choose a chocolate flavor ahead of time, do we?

I can see that this entry into the world of ice cream and gelato is going to cause me to make some serious healthy eating choices all week in order to indulge on the weekends. I love to bake, but I don't usually EAT the results. They keep Brad and our friends, neighbors and co-workers happy, but when it comes to gelato, ALL BETS on BEHAVING are OFF! I need to knock off a quick 10 lbs before we start this. At least in Italy, we walk off our gelato! I better go swim some laps instead of reading all of these recipes! (Or WALK to Home Goods to look for some cute, cheap bowls Cool.)

Re: bowls. I was thinking it might be time to use the interesting stemware we already have, like those martini glasses no one drinks from - but now, sigh, I will probably have an eye out for bowls. Thanks, as if trying not to eat all the ice cream wasn't bad enough - I feel it, Palma.

I think it would be interesting for everyone to weigh themselves before we start the Slow Scoopers and then at the end of the series to see how we fare.

What do you think?
