R.W. Apple, Jr., or Johnny, as he was known, passed away today.
This is a huge loss to any dedicated reader of the New York Times, as well as the entire community of food professionals, national and international.
He was a wonderful writer, and a larger-than-life personality. His career, what he saw and covered in his lifetime, was astounding. We surely need more writers like him today; I don't know who will carry the torch from this point onward. His New York Times Obituary says it all.
oh so sad to hear of his passing: a true slow travelers indeed. I used to read his columns. And so glad he likes Arzak in San Sebastian ,Spain and the Auberge du Cep in Fleurie ,Beaujolais, France; I have eaten there and agree is a must to visit.
